Replacement Motor Help!

I decided to upgrade my Habu 2 to a FMS 70mm unit running on 6s. I am pretty sure that the unit that I purchased was not 6s capable even though the website said it was. Needless to say, it completely jacked up the motor. Lesson learned. Now I am on the hunt for a new motor that will replace this one. I am looking for 6s capable and pretty cheap. Suggestions Please!!!

Yeah if you are looking for cheap like under a hundred bucks? I would suggest looking into a Wemotec fan and find a solid motor on RC groups. You will need to balance it as well. I would recommend just talking to Gary about the WeMo Tec Fan and maybe finding a good motor from him and have him balance it as well. You will spend about 75 bucks more doing this but also save yourself a lot of headache down the road. http://effluxrc.com

A 68mm WeMo EVO, with the HET 2W27 will run on 6s. And give you about 1200-1400W. The good thing about the WeMo fans, is you can reduce the exhaust to 85% FSA(56mm dia) and get very high efflux velocity. You can not do this with the chinese fans.

WeMo Pro(5b) and EVO(9b) are already dynamic balanced at WeMoTec. You just have to clock the spinner to dynamic balance the motor and adapter.

Which FMS fan, the new 12 blade unit (that I tested):

Also, what batteries are you using, 6S 3300?

If so, you need a good 1800kv motor. The FMS Predator 1850kv motor has too much resistance. I gets too hot at 60+ amps. Maybe that's what happened to you.

I suggest the HET 2W-40:

It will give an amp draw in the mid 50's on 6S
Or, you could use a TP-Power 2940-6Y (1900kv):
http://www.tppowerusa.com/motors/bui...series/tp-2940
Amp draw would be mid 60's to low 70's. It'd be a beast on that motor.
The last choice would be a Neu motor in the 1800-1900kv range (1115-3D)

I was using 6s 2650s from HobbyKing.

I took the whole fan apart to see exactly what happened. Because I was using 6s on this motor it got extremely hot and melted the motor mount. This led to the motor ingesting melted plastic and eventually seized it. Fan unit and motor are pretty much toast.

Indeed it does get hot. I am pretty sure that this was not the 1850kv motor though. Either way, heat was the culprit.

I was thinking of going with this for a cheap replacement. If you guys know if one that is close to this price but better quality let me know.

Remember, I reviewed that. See link above.
If you buy that, you may run into the same problem as you just experienced. The motor runs hot and might melt the housing. A good efficient setup is the Wemo EVO 70mm edf with the HET 2W-30. 1100 watts at 50 amps. 1.6+kg of thrust. Contact EffluxRC
If you’re after sound, then a CS 12 blade edf with a Het 3W-25.
Both of these setups are matched to the batteries you have, for performance and flight time.
The Habu is a draggy airframe, so it will never be a rocket
