Well how about that!

Looks like the AMA is going to offer insurance for the commercial drone guys. Wonder how that is going to further muddy the waters between "aircraft" and "model aircraft" in the future?

I don't see how it would make a difference.

Just another example of what the AMAs real priorities are.

And it isn't the membership nor the recreational flyer.

And since there are a dozen or more companies out there with a two or more year head start on the AMA. Companies that do this sort of thing professionally! I think this will be yet another nail in the AMA coffin.

I predict the closing of your coffin long before
AMA’s lid is shut. It may take some adjustments
and shifting of priorities but there will be enough
enthusiasts in the future to keep the lights on at
some AMA hq somewhere ..
Believe it or not, not every model airplane lover
is an anti-social jack-ass.

Amen to that. I just try to remind those that would think that, that that is not true.

The AMA is not offering insurance for the commercial drone guys. Their marketing sends a bit of a mixed message but once you read past the headline:

"AMA's new commercial drone insurance member benefit is not supported by your AMA dues. It's separate from our recreation flying insurance that you automatically receive as an AMA member. It's an affinity program with the insurance purchase between you and the insurance company directly, and not the AMA."

They are just in an affinity marketing agreement with this insurance company that was already selling it. Pure profit for the AMA.

Yep, its just like the Nationwide Insurance affinity marketing agreement . Pure profit for the AMA.

But you must be a AMA member to obtain the insurance. IMO really a bad move ( among the long list of others) recently from the AMA.

Has anyone requested a quote? I'm tempted to do so to see how it compares with other options.

(added) Just did. $500 a year for one million in liability, no hull coverage. Oh, and the quote you get is also forwarded to not one but two people at AMA. Complete with your info, what you want to insure, and what FAA certificates you hold.

Wonder what the AMAs cut is from that? And once you have it, what would happen should you......ahem.....forget to renew your AMA?

I could be wrong, but I don't think that is the case. You must be an AMA member to get the "discount" and for the AMA to get their cut. This would be why the AMA is getting copied in as well. This member benefit/discount is no different from an AARP discount that only members can use. Most organizations don't offer special deals to non-members.

The only way to know for sure would be to see if the insurance company will quote you a policy without using the affiliate link. This would also reveal if a discount is being offered.

True but as linked from the email you get this.

"Get pricing on liability insurance with protection of $500,000, $1 million, $2 million or more. AMA Membership is required for purchase, but you do not need to be a member to get a quote today."
