Bird scarer

Which forum should I post this on?
We are old in canada.
It is cold outside.
We put food out for the little birds.
Jays are a pest and we scare them away.
What we need is box with a push button that radio connects with something 20 feet away outside in the freezing weather.
That thing needs to allow some motion, say waving a stick or flag.
And if it made a noise thatwould be great!
Thanks everyone.

As a remote control unit can steer a car, plane, boat etc it must be able to control some simple device!

Cats work well. Scarecrows, too. Also just a simple pinwheel will keep most away.

Or a model of a hawk or owl perched in an overlooking tree. Or a squirrel on a limb.

as a remote control unit can work a plane, car, ship whatever...
it surely would work for this application.
i would just need some actuators.
what do these things cost?

Those solutions would not be Jay specific presumably (we don't have Jays here).

20 to 20ft is within the range of most radio control toys. They are sold here in KMART and TARGET and so on, just choose the toy that you think would work best. Whatever you put there it will need to be powered, small batteries won't last long, and waterproofed. And someone has to sit at the actuator and operate it whenever required. Someone could invent a device that recognises a Jay and only activates when one comes near - beyond the scope of this forum though.

Some students came up with this idea for scaring birds away from planes (runways):

How about a wireless doorbell?

Just switch it around to the opposite of the way it's meant to be installed, with the button indoors and the noisemaker outdoors.
