TBD-2 "The Baker's Dozen 2" Build off - The POLL LAST DAY!!!!

The “TBD-2” build off closed at midnight on 31st October 2017.

There were 35 entries with the following results:

Two entries were withdrawn
Five entries did not start a build log
Sixteen entries had build logs which showed very substantial progress but failed to finish in time.
Twelve entries had build logs which produced finished models, and these entries are listed in the poll above and illustrated by the photographs below (click on the photo for a larger view).

The overall entry was satisfying, as were the number of build logs started, however the ratio of completed models to entries was rather disappointing. Hopefully some of the fourteen entries that were beaten by the clock will transfer themselves to the "Complete a Project 2017" build off (see https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2804343) which will run until the end of the year so that we may have the pleasure of following them to their conclusion. Maybe “build off fatigue” has set in, in any case I am taking a break and will not myself be administering any more build offs after completing the CAP2017 at the end of the year

VOTING

As always the voting in this poll is strictly for fun and to allow all RCGroups members to express their personal preferences in choosing their favourites. The main purpose of the build off is to encourage modellers to carry on building their own models as an enjoyable and creative alternative to the large volume of commercially available ready built models which dominate the hobby these days. There is some really outstanding model building on display here, but no matter which models top the poll, all the entrants are really winners as they have a new model to enjoy flying, having already had great fun and enjoyment in the building process, and I hope that following the build logs has proved interesting and enlightening for everyone, and maybe even encouraged someone who has yet to try building their own to have a go. Thanks to Bruce Matthews there is one "prize" this time. Bruce has donated one of his useful hand built razor planes which will be awarded to one of the 12 finished entries, selected by random draw.

Any RCG member may vote for their favourite THREE models this time. However, please note that the system only allows you to vote on one occasion, so you MUST select all the three models you wish to vote for at ONE TIME. If you vote for one and exit the voting, the system will NOT allow you back in to vote for the others. Please vote for ALL THREE of your choices at one time

Links are given to the build logs for each model should you wish to look at these before voting, and the poll closes on 11th April 2017. Photographs of the entries are shown below in the same order as they are listed in the poll; These can be viewed larger by clicking on the photo.

Thanks to everyone who supported this Build Off, especially to those who completed modelst and also to all those who have given such sterling support to the build offs over the last six years or so. It has been very enjoyable but for a number of reasons I will not be organising any more, although I would be very happy to answer any questions about the way I do it should someone else want to pick up the baton.

Please ignore the post regarding the Dreamboat, I copied it in error when copying the TBD post 1 for editing - it does not refer to this (TBD-2) build off.

Thanks for all the organization, labor, and good fun, George. Have really enjoyed watching and entering, even when I didn't finish. Enjoy the back and forth with other modeler especially. So many vintage models owe their creation to this thread. Hope we will all stay connected even as life changes. All the best for the remainder of 2017 and the coming new year.

As others have said:- thank you so much for all the tine and effort you have put into the build offs! It has been a lot of fun, and also a great learning experience.

I hope your health issues are soon resolved, and that you're able to chase thermals again soon

Warren, pr, Owl, thanks for the kind remarks. It has been a lot of fun and when the CAP2017 has closed I will add the finished models from that and the TBD-2 to the thread showing all the models completed in the build offs, I think everyone should be proud of the quality and quantity of models produced, I know I am.

Andy, thanks for editing that post I copied in error.

Looks like voting is going along nicely with a three way battle between the Sperry Messenger, the Pushaire and the Chicken Hawk. Plenty of time for the others to catch up though, so vote if you haven't already.

After two months of nightmare internet problems I managed to get a connection via a 4G mobile yesterday in time to set up the poll, but it comes and goes and there is no guarantee. We are due to get an ADSL connection next week, despite being within 2 kilometres of a node experience indicates that less than 1 MB download speed is the best we can expect, but hopefully it will be less flaky than the 4G mobile which drops out completely for days at a time. Don't let anyone tell you that the internet infrastructure in France is good - it might be OK in Paris and the big cities, but everywhere else it is c**p, the demand has just outstripped the ability of the creaky infrastructure which has not been updated sufficiently quickly. And the attitude of the various suppliers to complaints is pretty much the typical shrug of the shoulders.

I'm going to go through the links and vote a little later today. At the same time I'll print out all the names on slips and toss 'em in a bucket for the razor plane draw. Good luck to all of you.

As George says, there's no losers in a "non'test" of this sort. I know that even with my late start that I'm having a blast making shavings again and other than having to shut down to order up some goodies to put in the model that it'll be back and going and finished well in time for the CAP 2017 deadline.

The random draw is done and I'm pleased as punch to announce that JBergsmith is the winner of the razor plane. I hope you find it as useful as myself and about 100 other folks here in the North West have done.

I'm sure you will be back with some nice builds as soon as you are settled Jeff, good luck with your move.

It is looking tight in the voting with two entries dead heating after 25 voters. Be sure to add YOUR votes.
