Phoenix 8 New Day

I have been here before, same subject. Now a little older, in colder climate, skills are still here, fire in the belly keeps getting lower. No problem. I have been watching build threads on here, learning new methods, and thinking about building again, our favorite models. This fuselage is 40 years old, no cracks or spider webs, it will be fine.

Love the Aero Composites label in the 4th photo, Vince. Dave Scully's kits were outstanding for their time. I built a couple of his Tipo 750s back in the day.

Good luck finding a new color scheme - it's one of the hardest things for me. I would suggest adding a darker color for contrast. Speaking only for myself, I NEED excellent contrast these days - my old eyes aren't what they used to be.

Hi Jim. Good idea on color. Thinking of engine upright. Be first time in a Phoenix. No pipe. Check out this P-7.

That's a first for me. I've never seen a Phoenix with pipe through the canopy before, although I did that to a Deception once.

Well Vince,
Since you followed mine, I'll follow yours. May pick up a new tip or two.
Is that fiberglass epoxy or polyester?

Ed. Epoxy, although most P-6's I did from that era, were polyester. Good ridgity at the empennage.

Pix, last TT I had, "would've-should've-could've" here. The blue one.

Paul, I am still figuring, especially the paint job. I have the other P-8 in Ohio, get that in January. Peeldog. I like your builds, every time I would look at your P-8, it would get me going.

Side mounted engine the only way to go.
Muffler or pipe under the wing...plus all the fuel goop!

Cut out center, R12 will protrude a little.

I am going to be a little slow on posts here, too much "stuff" on my plate right now. Slow meaning ongoing construction.

I’m watching closely. I’ve never built a fiberglass/foam airplane yet. Only built up stuff. Currently framing up an Astrohog. I’d like to get into this.

I will be here for couple days, decided to get on with unwrapping 40 year old balsa. The metal here has the pivot point on the left side, allowing me to
get degree needed for cutting sheet balsa and film if used. Always cut with the grain. Pictures also attached of tips goal. This is from one of myP-6 builds,
template of ply sandwiched which will make the tips, both matched after carving. More on that later. As you can see, I will be working off of
glass for all cutting and sheeting the wing and stab halfs.
