The new US M1A2 Abrams Full Option Kit from Tamiya is a functional work of art; this modern tank has been recreated down to the most finite detail.

Tamiya 1/16 US M1A2 Abrams Full Option Kit

The Abrams in All Her Glory

The 1/16 US M1A2 Abrams Full Option Kit is one of the most detailed tanks to come out of the Tamiya camp. It features a DMD T-08 multi-function unit for realistic movement, sound, and lighting, as well as a GFS (Gun Fire Simulator) unit and infrared LED unit for the detection and emission of infrared beams - perfect for organized tank battles. An extreme level of detail has been added to the Tamiya Abrams, including photo etched parts, full torsion suspension, and fine detail rendering throughout.

Powering the Abrams is a pair of 540-sized brushed motors, a 130 size turret rotation motor, and 130 size recoil motor. The Tamiya 1/16 US M1A2 Abrams Full Option Kit retails for $1059 and is scheduled for delivery in early November 2017.

There is also a "display only" version, for less than half the cost... anyone have a clue whether that would have the same tracks as the R/C version?

Edit: Possible answer- TamiyaUSA has a whole list of spare parts for R/C: https://www.tamiyausa.com/product/rc...1#.Wfi8efkrKHs

MUCH appears to be different...

it appears the serious armor modelers are not especially impressed with this kit, even the static one that sells for almost $600 (!!!)

They are complaining about the price of the static kit, not the full option rc version. I agree. $600 for a static is a little up there.

Visit the AAF Museum, Danville VA, online, for the best USA Tamiya rc Abrams’ price, $900.00 USD plus UPS charge.

For the static Tamiya Abrams’ the cost is $345.00 USD plus UPS delivery charge.

I have an rc Abrams kit on the way FYI, the kit static and rc kit tracks are identical. The main kit difference is the expensive rc electronic package is not included with the static Abrams kit.

FYI: The first USA shipment of the Tamiya rc Abrams sold out in about two days at the AAF Museum and should continue to be a very popular rc kit. The reviews are outstanding for the 1/16 scale Tamiya rc Abrams, as recently viewed at the better 1/16 scale rc tank oriented Facebook Group Pages and at the dedicated 1/16 scale rc tank forums

Bought one, built it. Typical Tamiya. Painted it in OIF colors and lettered with Desert Rogues markings. Awesome tank! If you are on the fence about one...GET IT!

Other then a radio, and (building stuff like glue and paint) is there any thing else needed for this to be IR war ready?

Thanks

Yes. You’ll need a Tamiya Battle Unit (TBU).
Tip: Visit the AAF Museum online for the best USA Tamiya price for the kit, TBU, tank battery and a Futaba 4 channel rc System plus a left stick spring return kit.

https://shop.aaftankmuseum.com/searc...show=10&page=2

Recap; what you need:
1. Abrams kit.
2. Recommend a Skysport 2.4 Four Channel System, or I like and use the 4 channel Futaba FM Ground Radio for easier setup and reliable operation for activating all the IR and rc features for Tamiya’s modern rc tanks.
3. Tamiya Battle Unit, tank battery charger and tank 7.2 battery.
4. Glue and paint per the Tamiya Abrams Instructions.
5. If you use a Futaba System, you will need a spring loaded left stick return kit (ratchet stick does not work all that well with RC tanks). The museum may have the kit or they can tell you where to buy it. Simple to install.
