Fokker DR1 build thread .09 powered

I'm building a Fokker DR1 triplane which will hopefully be powered by an Enya 09, so I guess it qualifies as 1/2a? Around 30 inch wingspan, for those interested here's my link. Thanks.

We would all enjoy seeing your build shared here too and look forward to the maiden flight vid.

The forum generally accepts up to 15 two strokes, covers all the array of small engines
within those power levels. Includes the small 4 strokes as they are so limited in power
and within the two stroke limitations of performance / typically some 10 and most 15
size planes can use them.

Keep it lightweight, a 30" tri-plane will be quite large for the little Enya, one 30" wing is usually about right.

What electric power do they recommend? Have you seen any numbers for the total weight on electrics?

The Hobby King site says 650g less electrics and batteries. I am not a fan of Enya .09s.

Ouch, 650g without electrics and battery doesn't sound very promising...

That would instead be a good final weight to aim for with that engine. The largest plane I've flown with the .09 Enya was around 630 grams (if I remember correctly). It flew fine but wasn't very spirited;

22.2oz with a Enya .09 is ok..

11.7oz with a TD .09 is much better

Oooh, I'm sure one can build something smaller than that, shouldn't be an issue...

I was showing the plane above as an example of the largest plane that I have flown with an Enya .09 engine. The plane has a 1.1 m (about 43") wingspan and wing area of 23dm^2 (about 356 inch^2) plus a landing gear etc.

I swapped the Enya .09 engine for a Modela (MMVS) Junior 2cc (.12) diesel, and never looked back. It now swings a 9x5 prop with authority and that suits the plane much better than the 7x4-7x5 prop that the Enya liked.

Oh guys I didn't know there were responses in this thread, sorry

The plane is mostly build, just waiting on the fire red ultracote and a 4-40 drill tap set.

This one at 32" span was flown with a Johnson 35.
