New: 3DHS Extreme Flight 60” Slick 580 EXP v2
The 3D Hobby Shop Extreme Flight 60” Slick 580 has arrived so I figured I’d share some unboxing photos and start a clean thread. Let the builds begin!
Description from the http://extremeflightrc.com website. Look for it under 3DHS. The popular 60" Slick has been updated to feature new schemes and additional carbon fiber! 60" Slick 580 V2 The evolution of our legendary Slick design continues with the release of the new 60 inch Slick 580! Low and slow or fast and aggressive, the new Slick is well tested and highly refined, informed by close to a decade of experience with this airframe. Featuring a carbon reinforced skeleton and 2 gorgeous printed color schemes, the Slick 580's appearance matches its incredible performance. Paired with our 4016T/500, Airboss Elite 80 Amp ESC, a Xoar 16x7 prop and a 6S 3300-4000 mah battery, the Slick is a lethal 3D/XA weapon to add to your arsenal! I believe there is a typo since there are currently no printed versions of the v2. It’s available in the Yellow, Blue, Black and White, Red, Blue schemes found on the other current Extreme Flight Slick 580 models. No Jase Dussia scheme yet but we can always hope! Initial unboxing reveals an impressive ARF kit. There’s a ton of nice features, quality hardware, and overall construction seems very well thought out. The stab features the same easy alignment design as the 52” version and small things like the servo wire holder on the wings are great to see. Did I mention there is a lot of carbon!?! Hopefully these photos will help people to see some of the differences from the v1 model. I hope it flys half as good as it looks! |

So from what I see it looks like the V2 is the same aero pacage as the V1. I am fine with that I liked my V1. The only 2 things that I didn't like about my V1 was. First only available in printed covering with no traditional covering option. That's fixed now. The only other thing I didn't like was the narrow battery box. It made it hard for me to get my fat fingers in there to get the battery back out. So they updated it to a self aligning tail and the carbon construction. They also changed the motor box over to the typical EF design with the angled sides. I like that much better then the strait and narrow 3DHS design. It looks like the cowl and canopy are the same as the V1 other then the paint. I also like that they retained the fiberglass elevator Joiner. I think that is the strongest design. All and all I think it is some good improvements and I know I will be getting myself one for sure.

I would like to know if the Slick 60 is similar to the Slick 52, which I have flown and really like.
Although I am sure the Slick 79 is a great plane, I am looking for something that is great at traditional low and slow 3D, which for me requires a low wing loading. The higher wing loading planes like the Slick 79 don't suite my flying style, I don't do any XA manuevers. |

Well this is pretty remarkable. Version 2 is a completely different plane.
I would love to hear their reasons for making such a profound change to what was a great airframe. I couldn't have been more impressed with my dear departed original. It was great in every way. Is Version 2 even better, somehow? UPS says they'll deliver mine tomorrow. Can't wait to see it! . |

Lovely plane. If I didn't already have a 52" I'd order one. The 52" flies incredibly. Better than any 60" I've had. Enjoy!

The 52" Slick is fantastic! Eager to read and see the flight reports on the V2 60" Slick. Curious to know if it flies like the 52" Slick. If it does, it's another hit it out of the ball park product from Extreme Flight RC. If it flies better than the 52" Slick, what will Chris and Ben come up with for an encore? Hint: 52" Laser and 60" Laser and 60" Edge with the updated features! Also, would be helpful to read build reports and see build video on the 3DHS 60" Slick! |

Yes, it is.
I've unboxed mine and have been studying it. It's a remarkable piece of work. As great as the original was, Version 2 is even better. I'm not going to rush the build. I'll take my time and try to make this plane as perfect as I can. EF/3DHS is really, really good at making radio-controlled model airplanes, as if we didn't know already... . |
