What size are the tiles? If they're a foot across, I think that's a pretty decent sized model.

44 1/2" according to the plan I have. However there were several kit versions, and plans published, so there may be slight variations

The tiles are only 9", and yes it spans around 44". I know there are many bigger rubber powered models. Span wise it's not that big, in fact it's about the same span as the coupe above. It's just that the fuse is so wide and tall + tall landing gear, big single blade folder, etc that it makes the plane seem BIG.
Regards,
Bill

The launch is also a bit touchy. Too fast and it will roll; too slow and the ground gets it. The secret seems to be to keep the top half of the 'fuselage' light. Marked anhedral, no fin (in the usual sense). It's an amazing design. An absolute hoot to fly when it's trimmed.

hi tony

i am getting back into free flight (i have a dozen old .049 engines and have nothing to do with them) and i am really interested in that plane which has those two "circle" airfoils

i was wondering were you got the kit for it (or did you build it from scratch )

thanks

Hey Now

Indoor freeflight

Here's a 2 pics from our indoor freeflight event yesterday. The little boy is only 3 years old. He launched his Penny Plane by himself. The other photo is my Pennyplane just cruising. Check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FloridaIndoorFreeflight/

Well, I've got permission to fly whatever I want (within reason-no rockets), but this bird just takes too much room. The airport is over a mile long and only 250 acres, so not very wide. I've gotten flights of almost 8 minutes there on calm days from small stuff, but wakefields eat up a field fast enough to make one's head spin.

There is very little FF activity, but I'm starting to make contact with a few people. Some guys fly indoor down at the Citadel quite frequently.

F/F pics

As I started this thing off, here are three of my current crop to start the pics in the second hundred posts. No prizes for identifying, but they should stir some memories.

Just a guess---Quad???? Le Kid, got a plan somewhere, Model Aircraft l think, and was orig. pre-war. Mimi. Had one of these with a real Dart in it in the 50s.
All great old models, and bet they all fly well too. GOOD TO SEE 'EM.

F/F forever.

Got a model or two out today for some pics.
Rubber is job is a 'JEKYLL & HYDE from '54 Aeromodeller mag.
Just gets in for OZ vintage, and it maxed out to win it last year.
45in span--50in long--100 grams rubber.

Faultless Chick bipe from late 40s MAN mag, 45in span, old OK 09. Good flyer.

Spot on Gossie!

Kwod is Eric Clutton's model. Le Kid is a superb flyer and for a 1930s model, very advanced. Mimi is grossly overpowered with an 049 - prop on backwards and running rich, it still is.

I must look up the J&H. The Faultless Chick's new to me - very pretty design.
