That's pretty clever with the freewheel ramp! |

Nice bones Robert.
While we are on a roll, bones of my Thermal Bug from 1952. Almost 30in span rubber lightweight with SBF. Blade next job to be done. Started to cover the tail with some domestic tissue I had, but looked awful so took it off and Esaki it will be. |

Thanks for the complement. I wasn't clever enough to figure out the old time music wire free wheel stops, so I tried this approach. The tube ramp works thanks to the now easy availability of the right sized Al tubing and good strong CA glue. I used part of the tube to make a cutter for a groove to embed the ramp piece in. I had put in the brass tubing bearing first, and I left a little sticking out forward, to keep the CA I used on the ramp from sealing the bearing shut. After I glued the ramp in, I was lucky to get a good strong joint. Happy flying Joe |

Been working on my Guillow's Nakijima Rufe on the nights I have off from graveyards, turning out too nice to try and fly it I think

This is what I have been working on for the past few weeks. A 24" Blackburn Monoplane. I found a small plan and enlarged it drafting it myself. The metal simulation is aluminum color spray enamel. I had difficulties with that. i kept poking dents in the tissue, and once painted there is no more water shrinking to solve problems like that, and trouble with the guy wire rigging. The notches I cut in the wooden dowel post to accept the thread were not deep enough for eight strands, and I put a cap on to hide the mess. But the rest went along okay. I have yet to weigh it...it does not feel too terribly heavy. i am wondering what size rubber motor to start with. The tissue is Esaki, and sealed with Krylon. The propeller is an 8" with a Peck combination thrust button / nose block. There is not a lot of room at the rear motor mount for a heavy motor, I am hoping no more than 3 loops of 1/8" will get it up and flying. The balsa wood is store bought locally from two different stores, and varies in weight, and hardness, but not too bad.

Kevin, that is one beautiful model. We would love to see a video of the model in it's elements whenever you fly
