Mercury did well with their designs untill
the dreaded P.T. caught up with them.
I still have an untouched Mallard kit of

Back in the 50'ies the idea was to let the
model wander and drift into lift a lot more
than today. The rudder made sure it turned
against the wing warps, particularly so with
power models in the pre auto rudder days.

Ron Churnich in our Brisbane F/F club also has one, and it flys like a bird.
Got it flying yesterday 31/7/05----and does it fly well------very.

Used a Cox 049 reed motor and the 8 blade 3in impeller l made as could not get a Phil Smith one.

Flew it several times----the last time, full tank and flew for 7min on a warm windless day.

Must build the Veron Sabre now.

The Mini-Eros is a very attractive airplane, Chas (as is the 84" one!) - what span and power?

My own was DC Merlin and the plan was the 42-inch RC Aircraft Extra from 1983, a Boddington re-draw of the John Coasby original.
It was a bit "heavy" in build and was not the one pictured above (I blush to say I would be doing very well to match that finish!).

I still have an un-built-from copy of the plan if you would be interested.

Cheers Apple

Pity the Slicker lost its wheels, but it
still looks the part. Unusual to be able
to see the rear crutch and former
construction. Covered in something like
silk or nylon?

Nice to see the Slicker again.

Do I detect the cylinder head of a Mills, or is nostalgia merely misting up the Rose tinted glasses.

Yes - I like that model too - nice pic with the sun shining through the fuselage.
I like the trend towards smaller versions of the old designs. I suppose it allows us some leeway in powering them. Seeing some 50inch design with a huge chunk of weighty petrol engine and spark gear staggering around isn't very nostalgic to me. A smaller version with a Mills or such gets me though.

Looks like a .75. but then the number of
ribs in that wing look more like a 50" than the
30odd" 1/2A version. The bigger 2.4 perhaps?

Nerr nerr, not tellin yer.......

Seriously guys, I don't know - I took these at OW years ago - but my recollection is that it was the "Slicker Mite" with a Mills .75, from the Ain't Half Hot Mum regions. Fine fuselage, show it off, show it off.....

Tony you're spot on. The designs make wonderful diesel-ites for fetcher-mites and are much less likely to join the circuit at YYZ or LHR. They land somewhere close in most cases, even with my radio guidance.

Do they all fly, or is it just static?

Superb effort----they look as though they should fly----hope there is lots of the 'no wind and soft grass' though. Would hate to 'bend' them----too precious.
