Alive, and sort of kicking. I'm starting to do more freeflight again after years of not. Finishing off a Herr Helio Courier that a friend built, and re-building his Earl Stahl Gypsy. Then I have to build another Larry Kruse Centennial, 40 span. Just might end up ignoring my r/c for a while.

I got an Easy Built Rainbow on the board and altering the lines of the aft fuse so it looks more normal. After this one I'll do the Vega Starliner from Volare. When I go fly I take the little UMX Radian to exercise the dog. Thats about all the rc I do anymore. I'm getting a lot of satisfaction out of free flight ! Good luck with your builds, I'll post some pics soon.

Yup, I hear ya. I'm moving out to the country again, and might be able to fly some freeflight in my front yard. Going to build a ton of peanut scale again, I even hope to finish off my peanut scale Chance Vought Flying Pancake.
Freeflight can be way more satisfaction generating than just about any other form of the hobby. |

I agree Baldguy. I'm trying to finish up a 1/4 scale build right now, and all I can think of is getting back to building some rubber powered free flight stuff. I have more wood in the tail of my current build that I would have in 2 dozen small peanuts!
I'm going to the Indoor free flight event at West Baden this weekend, and that won't help either.... |

Guillows Rufe kit 507
Got the kit for Christmas. Daughter found it in an antique shop. I haven't built stick and tissue in over 35 years and have a new found respect for those that build em. Small fragile parts! But thanks to the internet I was able to read up on any issues I had. Had good luck with Testors wood glue. Used 50/50 Elmers glue for tissue bondage and Krylon acrylic instead of dope(not sure I put enough on...). Also my first attempt at airbrushing (just the plastic parts). Used automotive touch up paint(thinned). Canopy done with a Sharpy, on the inside. I saw a green Rufe posted further up the page and thought I'd add a red one.
Probably is just to look at. Those pontoons will not take much abuse! Though a .25 or larger size would be a pretty cool project! |

Pilatus Porter
Returning to rubber models after around 60 years! The Pilatus was really built as 'experience' to get my hand in after building much bigger RC aircraft. A little more fiddly to build than a 2 metre RC model! Have yet to test fly the model. It is a laser cut kit produced by Avetec Ltd here in NZ - lovely to assemble with all parts fitting beautifully. I had some Litespan which I used to cover the model but regretted using it. Tissue is the only way to go for models this size.
Have completed a Hanger Rat ready for testing at the indoor meeting tomorrow night - Avetec also produce a kit of this model. On the building board now is a Druine Turbulent, a reduced Flying Aces plan which brings the model to a 14.5 inch (37cm) wing span. Wings completed and fus under construction. Allen |

Here's another. Like the Bis, the Voison Hydroplane literally flew off the board.
