Question

Is there an "ideal" first time charge charge-rate?

Hi, all,

Lotsa newbie to electric questions today.

Is there a 'best' first time charge rate, e.g., .1C or 1C or .... that gives the battery the longest life or lowest IR or anything else? Or should I just set the charger for max rate and not worry about it?

TIA,

Larry

For what battery chemistry?
If it's Lipo just charge it at the manufacturer's recommended rate.
1C is a good starting point.

Thanks, Rhea.

It is lipo and max rate is 5C, no other rate mentioned....but that really is a bit much for a balance charge...I just thought there might me a best rate for the initial charge cycle.

Not really.. Some recommend a lower charge rate (and discharge rate) for the first few cycles however tests have shown very little if any change in cycle life or internal resistance if these "break in" cycles are done
