Panel's are done and ready to join the tips to the middle panel's.
I shaped the tips a little different and left them flat. |

I know..
Just another wing!! What's a good weight for an uncovered wing? It's 6.6 oz. Uncovered. |

No! Not "just another wing". Another beautiful Yellow Jacket wing full of promise and hope, and glorious days of soaring....
Besides we all like pictures, even if we've seen them before. And we need some hope and encouragement these days. Can't help with weight, never saw the point of weighing before covering and thus never have weighed any of mine. |

Just an aside.
I was recently in Colorado Springs, with the Pikes Peak soaring club. We launched out of a sod farm out on the prairie, into winds that hovered around 10-12mph. Winds like that make for monster launches, and I loaded my ballast into my Yellow Jacket with the standard wing and gave it a try. A guy with an F5J ship showed us the way: there was some sort of terrain-derived lift at a line of trees just over the lip of a slope into the wind. Get there, and lift was often elevator-like for minutes at a time. The YJ launched very high, and it was no problem reaching into the wind to the tree line. As the morning developed, the lift came and went, interspersed with an occasional thermal. The wind never let up, but shifted around, and if you were quick, you could make dashes across the wind and hook an occasional thermal. The Yellow Jacket as been performing very well for me for over a year, now. I have both a standard wing and a lite wing, and the lite wing has saved my butt at more than one contest. I really should fly the standard wing more often. That day, I switched between my ballasted Yellow Jacket, and one of those new, Slite V2s. There was no doubt the Slite V2 was eating the conditions like a kid eating ice cream with a spoon, but in objective terms, both were fine. In fact, as the morning wore on, it was pretty obvious I should remove the ballast from the Yellow Jacket, but I never did. I had good climbs, anyway. I just finished a 1.5m Yellow Jacket. Cute as a bug, weighs just shy of eight ounces. Will fly it tomorrow, I hope. Greg Yours, Greg |

How much ballast did you add Greg?

Crash:
My YJ ballast pack is 72g. It is a brass tube I slide into the wing spar, on a wire that hooks to the end rib. It is slightly shorter than the spoiler. Any longer, and lateral/directional handling is affected badly, although more weight is not an issue for this airplane. My firm opinion is that 40-50g is about the optimal ballast pack for any wind condition. Ballast is not about penetration, but about gust response. Greg |

Done. Lovely kit. Very enjoyable build, looking forward to flying!
15.6 ounces RTF with a 1000 mAh battery, no lead in the nose has me in the ballpark for CG. Regular Ultracote for the purple/blue, I haven't flown in 30 years, so I want some durability. Transparent white Ultracote light on the tips. Pull spring with HS65MG rudder/ HS65HB elevator / HS55 spoiler. |

Personally, I think you are going to be very happy with that ship!

This is a pretty recent kit. Lite Wing, notice the lightening holes in the TE, also spoiler. It sports the V3 build up rudder going in all 2M kits now.
Magnificent, yea the Lite covering is not too available so that adds weight. The color choices in UC reg trans are great though. This will be a great flyer for sure and very durable. Very nice |

The range is 2.75" to 2.91". For many the sweet spot is in the 2.81" area.
