RCGroups free webhosting has grown beyond anyone's wildest imaginings, to the point where, as many of you have noticed, the sheer quantity of traffic is starting to negatively affect the quality and availability of the service.

We have approximately 700 accounts. Even though we don't offer full support, just the management of so many accounts has become an issue, not to mention the bandwidth clogging. Some tightening up needs to happen mainly so we can justify continuing the service.

For now, I have disabled the form that sends new requests.
We will continue to run the service for existing accounts, and
we will deal with requests that are already in the queue.

Meanwhile, if you have suggestions, post them here.
I have a managed dedicated server I'm paying big bucks for and hardly use up any resources with it, I was contemplating letting the public on board with it to also enjoy it's performance and reliability, let me know if I'm stepping on any toes with this one.

Before you start letting others on your server make sure you know what your getting yourself into and are willing to put up with the time, problems and other issues that always crop up when letting other people have accounts on your server.

If you decide to let others on your system I would start out with some people you know well and are willing to spend the time helping with their setups. Then see if its still something you want to entertain at that point. It eats up alot more of your time than you think when you start hosting alot of accounts on one server.

hosting

So far, have a few clients, it's pretty smooth, I know what you are saying when you have volume and let everybody and their brother on board, things can get hectic, I've actually worked for a couple of operations as customer and tech support for a while in the past, also did alot of web design work so know what to look for in a host as based upon what's necessary from any web designers standpoint and all elements are very much addressed.

You gotta admit, uploading vid to any box is a rather large file and bandwith intensive, so gotta keep some form of limits on those.

Is Web Hosting still suspended to new accounts ?

I'd like to move our R/C Club's web site to RCGroups:
http://www.bataviarc.org

Thank you,
Vinnie

It's been "temporarily" suspended for 3 years now. I think we can make it "permanent".

No. But as you can see from this thread, and the dates of the posts, it's been temporarily suspended for three years, and -like you- some of us have been asking when the hosting would be opened again. To no avail.

We offer free hosting as well for helicopter related websites. If you have an airplane site you may apply as well but helicopter sites have the priority.

if anyone needs a site setup please contact me through the site or directly. dthreatt@rcheliresource.com

I haven't seen much activity on this thread in quite some time. I have a question about the existing site that I'm having hosted by rcgroups. Who do I speak with?

The link seems to be broken:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
