Drops 299 competition


Hello,
in the last few month we developed a new Drops 299 for F3B and F3F. You can change the wings, Tails and the Fuselage with the Drops 277 ;-)

The design comes from David Pichler and the molds were milld CNC.
Now we built the production forms and start with the first Drops 299

The max FAI competition weight is 4837g

Drops 299 design


Hello Vic,
the design was just a try, because we use metallic paint....
but we can do any design what you want and the F3B Drops we make it with 60g IMS Spread Tow and inside with 38g CFK. The weight is about 1900g for F3B and for F3F with 100g double Spread Tow about 2300g.

Drops299 F3B


Hello,

I recently received a Drops299 F3B layup. It is now ready for the first flight. I used MKS DS6100 HV for ailerons and KST X10 Mini for flaps. Wing servos are mounted in RC Solution wooden frames, with counter bearings. V-Tail servos are KST X12. I tried to keep the weight low, using light extension cables, etc...

I used classic linkages in the wings, no LDS or RDS.

Empty weight without ballast ist 1’955 g. So far, I kept two ballast options (2.5 kg and 3kg). Above that, I will use stronger layup.

At this point, there is no winch hook on mine. I am thinking about building one in.

Has anybody ever put a 299 or 277 on an F3B/J winch ? Any recommended hook position ?

I don't know anything specific about that model but if it's an adjustable tow hook then you want to centre it around or slightly in front of the CG.

I know CG and tow hook position are independent but you need some frame of reference. For good rotation and good launches in f3b you can end up with the tow hook behind the CC, on it, or not far in front. Depending on the model and pilot.

Maiden flight


Hello,

I maidened my Drops299 F3B yesterday, at the slope : no wind, a lot of high clouds hiding the sun, but thankfully some light thermals.

I am very happy with the performance in flight in those light conditions. The plane is easy to thermal, is able to catch very light lift. Stalling characteristics are good, no bad surprises in flight despite some testing at very low speeds.
On the other hand, despite the low weight, it can still travel far and come back efficiently. The plane is very agile.
