Halogen to LED conversion

Hi guys
I have an old 500W halogen work light I was thinking of converting to LED. I saw these, which look like an easy fix, but the reviews seem to be quite poor on it. Low light levels, and burn out easily?

Why not use something like this, and equipment with a dimmer switch or something?
I still have some silver heat sink paste from an old computer project, a HS as well. I also have a variety of different old wall unit power converters from various appliances.
Never built one of these, but it looks like it must be fairly straightforward if it would work?
