14MZ 2.4 telemetry

Looking for a vario to use with this 14MZ radio ,but with all the sites I looked at none had a vario that applied to this radio . Obviously I'll need a Fasst telemetry receiver. Any help would be appreciated . It doesn't make sense to have a transmitter with voice/music capability and not use it's telemetry . I fly mostly electric sailplanes and sport electrics .
Thanks.

I don't think 14MZ has telemetry capability. You will need an 18MZ, or minimum 14SG radio, and a FASSTest receiver, plus necessary sensors for telemetry.

That is correct; only the rx's labeled as "FASSTest" are telemetry capable and if your radio won't run that protocol, you cannot do telemetry on the higher channel count stuff. The new T-FHSS format on the tx's/rx's like used on the 10J, can also run telemetry but your tx won't run that format either.

The 18SZ, 16SZ, and 10J can all do telemetry along with the 18MZ and 14SG.

Yep, but I doubt somebody coming from a 14MZ is going to go to a 6K!

Hi,
I use Futaba 14MZ with telemetry.
What You need is an external Futaba(Robbe) F1666 Telemetry box (sold in Europe) and a special Futaba receiver with FAST+FASStest, R6308SBT (sold in Europe).
The R6308SBT is not certified to be used in US (only certified to be used in Europe and CE marked). This receiver send data also so it is a transmitter for telemetrydata that is sent to the external Telemetry box, that is why this receiver must be certified also according to US FCC regulations, and to the best of my knowledge Hobbico in US never had this receiver certified for the US market.

I have used telemetry this way for many years (since the Telemetrybox and receiver was released ratyher many years ago). Never a single problem. I use it in my F3A planes with current sensor (Futaba/Robbe F1678 150A, is now made by Roxxy).

Telemetry sensors that is supported by the external Telemetry box is at least:
- Futaba/Robbe F1678 150A (Roxxy today)
- Futaba/Robbe F1675 GPS-Multi-Sensor, Vario-Altimeter-Speed-Distance
- Futaba/Robbe F1712 Vario-Altimeter sensor
- Futaba/Robbe F1672 TEK-Vario-Altimeter sensor
- Futaba/Robbe F1713 Temperature sensor (125 deg Celsius)

(not sure but I think also SBS-01RM Magnetic RPM Sensor and SBS-01RO Optical RPM Sensor is supported).

There is also some other 3:rd party sensors from a German company that is supported:

I'm planning on buying a used Robbe/Futaba Telemetry Box (software v1.003). If i'm nformed correctly, the Robbe Telemetry Box can be linked to 2 R6308SBT FasstEst receivers (the box has memory for 2 Receivers).
Is it necessary to actively select the approptiate receiver if i want to fly the corresponding model? Or can i just power up the receiver first and succesively power up the Telemetry Box?

Hi,
In Futaba/Robbe Telemetry box You save max ten models under names and You can then later select and activate each model (with its specific settings). It is described in the manual for the Telemetry box.
And (from the manual page 7):
"The Telemetry-Box stores the last two binding processes.
When you switch models, this makes it possible to continue to use the Telemetry-Box without having to re-bind."
