Which airfoil is most commonly used on 3D planes?

Any idea which airfoil is used on 3D, even more specific, on 3D/Pattern planes?

If you're talking about the typical e-powered flat fuse/wing designs that are everywhere nowdays, the wing section on about 90+% is just a flat plate. About .25" thick by the chord width. I.E., there is no airfoil. The plane flies (anyone can chime in here to correct me if I'm wrong) in flat and level flight by the positive incidence of the wing as related to the thrust line. And of course by brute power through most 3D aerobatics.

If you are talking about slimers, that's another whole story. You may have more luck in gas power section of RC Groups.

If you search for a build thread for a balsa plane, such as the StevensAero Groove 480 or Mountain Models Tantrum, you can often see nice pictures of the wing ribs. Just about anything with a nice round leading edge(not sharp) and about 15 % thick will work.

I've used a modified Eppler 479 on the Toccata. This airfoil is great for 3D. It developes a reasonable lift co-efficient, yet stalls abruptly when you want to slow the model down in a hurry. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...hlight=toccata

We could write a book on just this question and still not cover everything. Airfoils are specific to Reynolds numbers (area x speed) in addition to flying style.
What exactly are you trying to do or figure out? Do you have a specific size plane/motor combo in mind?
