Finger Food (Dystraction)

Model: Dystraction
Motor: AXI 2208/26 direct drive
Prop: APC 7x5SF
Battery pack: TP1320-2S
ESC: Castle Creations Phoenix-10
Receiver: Berg6*DSP w/ case removed
Servos: Hobby Electronics HE-490 sub-micro servos (5.2g ea)
Covering: Solite
AUW: 247g (8.71oz)
Mods: Mounted rudder servo in fuselage opposite and below elevator servo and connected to rudder via a standard push-pull link. This was to offset the additional weight of the TP1320-2S packs.

Maiden was uneventful. Only minor trim adjustments were required. Plane flies well and slows down nicely. Rain interrupted the flying period before I was able to optimize the setup (CG, aileron differential, prop size & pitch, etc) but all indications are that this will be one sweet-flying plane.

'Course that should come as no surprise. After all, it's a Stevens Aeromodel.

Thanks, Bill! You'll be getting my order for a G-Ride soon.

Pete

PS: On the day I maidened this plane, the majority of the other planes at the field were scale models with wing spans no less than 48". When I showed up with the Dystraction, one of the owners of those planes said "Look, everyone: Pete brought a target drone." Another responded "That's not a target drone, it's finger food."

And I suddenly knew what to name my plane. -P-

First good planes

HI,
This is my first post.
I graduated myself from the foamies this week, and hopefully the blue plane will be flying (at least for a little while) next week.
I have to compliment Bill Steven's on his kits. They are truely wonderful and encourageing to build. I am going on 9 weeks of modeling and completed 2 of his kits. If I can do it---- SO CAN YOU! I wish to post more, but I have not built much of a knowledge base yet. PLEASE excuse any crazy ?'s I might ask! Thanks for hosting/posting such a great resource.
Bill, if Santa calls please tell her I want/need the largest, or smallest kit you offer!
Sincerely,

Bryce Wright
Testing at 7000ft.

Here is my new Dystraction ready for maiden. I almost want to just put it on the wall and leave it there.

Anyone have any good tips for the maiden of this bird? Here are the specs:

Axi 2208/34 8x4 prop
ph 10
cirrus micro servos
Berg 4 rx c lightenna
Thunder Power 3 cell 480 packs for fuel

AUW 8.0 oz

I measured about 4.5 amps static wot. Everything seems to balance well and work.

Thanks Bill for designing these planes!

Here's my SA Cap 232 S300 refitted with an AXI 221226 swining a 9x6 SPC. Much better powerplant IMHO compared to Himax 2015-5400 geared.

Bryce,
Wow, those are some nice looking planes for your first two balsa builds!

Here's my Stella. Sorry for the low resolution scan. They covering on the top is not solite, but the slightly heavier Aerofilm that StevensAero now sells. What you can't see in the photo is how cool the metalic red is--it sparkles like a new car.

Nice colors Griffin and Ronbo.

This is not my plane, it belongs to Dave, a friend who is not a member of E-Zone. The colors must just be a coincidence. Who woulda thought? He modified the landing gear so it is attached to the fuse instead of bladed into the wing.

Power is an Astro 020 with NimH packs. Completed the third flight today and I am impressed. Makes my Park Cap look so small.

Here is my Stella... have only had a couple of flights but really too much wind so they were short flights... I think I need a better receiver cause I had several hits at our field... don't want to lose this little girl.. Haven't really had a good chance to get a good trim set on her either.. but she does fly nice and has lots of power with the setup I gave her...
