Spektrum Receivers : General Questions, Answers, and Discussion

A catch all for receiver questions not pertaining directly specific models.

First question:

I set up two remotes in the wing with a Powersafe Rx. So I can't turn the radio on without the wing. I mad a small pigtail harness to attach two extra remotes. I bound them to the model memory using a second identical Rx on the bench. Now I plug them in the missing spots and the radio works. It also still works if I put the wing on.

So if I do this in the future, what can I use on the bench for binding. I assume it will need to at least match the Class of Rx in the plane?

Yes.

Lucky for you, all the DSMX telemetry capable receivers with remotes work in the same mode, so you could use an AR636 or an AR20310 and it wouldn't know the difference.

That covers a lot of them. Maybe a couple older ones that are excess can go on the bench for the rest.

General receiver observation. Out playing with the 635 in a Pulse XT today. Works pretty slick. Gains at 30 and 70. Just a hint of wiggle at full speed, hi-gain. 30 is a little weak.

Will set 80 and 50 for next time out. 80 should be fine for slow speed maneuvering and the 50 might even be able to bump up to 60 for high speed.

The AS3X system is actually very smooth working. The 9350 in the Bonanza keeps it rock solid. Taking the slack out of control runs is important for AS3X.

Waiting for an AR636a to arrive for the stable too. Maybe in the Jetco Navigator.

You're still using an AR635? Most folks dropped those for AR636's as soon as they came out because they're so much easier to configure.

Got it for peanuts. Nice and simple for a basic plane. Not even flaperons.

I assume the twist in remote Rx harness is important for clean data line?

I was looking at a remote and with the case removed, connector header removed, it would fit inside 1/4 inch vertical fin. Just have to auger out a cavity.

The thought was to use flat ribbon cable that would also lay in a recess.

Get a Carbon remote and run the whisker up there, leaving the big part down in the fuse.

Bare stock 636 FW will not jive on this unit.

636a is only meant for certain FBL helis?

No good for a Fly Bar Flinger?

Some 636A's and all 636H's are locked FBL units rather than generic receivers. You really need to know what the unit came out of if you're buying an A or H variant.

Don't know whatit came from.

Shouldn't hurt to try the stock FW? Just be able to put one of the Heli versions back on after?

They will only work with the FBL ship they are intended to be for?

You may be able to flash stock (that works on most BnF 636's). You won't be able to go back afterwards (but can send it in to HH to get flashed for a fee)

With the stock FBL firmware, they will only work with the ship they are intended for, most notably units out of the 200SRX are FP FBL's, not CP FBL's.

Had nothing to lose. Works a treat. Strictly a crap shoot that worked out.

Connecting and programming settings using PC and Android.

Now to find an airframe.
