Any interest in a "Jupiter Giant"?

On the Jupiter. Jr. thread we are having an interesting discussion about slow giant flyers.

So far 54" then 64" have a preliminary layout on MPF, but i am pushing for 80"!

The conversation started here:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...biplane/page27

But I'd like to see who else has input or might be interested in building one from a laser cut kit and didn't think it was getting visibility buried in the original thread.

I became interested when I found the Giant Slow Bipe Thread, and since that plane never became available I thought why not build a giant version of the little Jupiter that I am almost finished building instead!

Here is that video:

Anybody else like this idea?

OK ... I'm monitoring

I have a Router based CNC machine.
Lasers are costly to own and operate.

Here is a tentative 80" layout. on 4' x 8' foam sheeting.
I show two full sheets and still not enough room for all parts.
It would be difficult/expensive to ship these cut parts

No re-engineering here , just a simple scale up.
You are on your own regarding ...
1. the structural improvements necessary at this size.
2. choice of equipment ( motor ESC Servos etc )

Thanks for checking in but I'm not sure what you are asking.

Bob is helping me layout an 80" Jupiter Giant on 1/2" foam - that is new.

I believe you might be able to talk him into cutting a 54" or 64" out of MPF for you - that is new.

Are you interested in building one?

what would be the cost is what I would want to know? A 54 incher would be ideal for my area. Very interested.

The builders of this monster will have to keep a balance of Strength vs Weight.
As with all aircraft.
More so if you really want this giant to fly very slowly.

Fortunately, just being Large should make it "appear" to be going slower than it actually is.
Ever watched a 747 or C5 landing or taking off. They look very slow.

As for pricing :
read here - http://www.hoosiercutoutservice.com/info/custom.htm
or read below ...
Figure $10-14 for shipping for 2017 -
LARGER kits might be double or triple that figure.
I only ask exact shipping.
Plus material. Most "stores" simply double their Wholesale cost. I do better.
Plus a cutting charge. $5-$8/sheet - What is your time and the Machine time worth ?
Boxing/Packing, labeling or just Handling is another cost and labor issue.

NOTE: I am not charging for the set up/prep/design time.

This is a one man shop and there are no Economys Of Scale for volume.
My service has been available since 2005 with hundreds of kits and custom project out the door.

I am retired ( now 70) and do this as a service for guys who either don't have
the Time or the Room or the Inclination or the Patience to do detailed cuttings.
I do CNC foam /ply Cutitngs, 3D Printing, CNC Milling of thick foams, and Custom CAD Design work.
My CNC machine is an old router based ShopBot the 3Dprinter is a Folger Tech FT-5
and the shop is always mess
Bob's New Shop in Indiana (4 min 4 sec)

That's for sure!

Exactly zero Jupiters have been built to this scale, so if you cut it yourself or have Bob cut it - it is a scratch built model!

So I had the plans enlarged 362% and printed on a large format printer

It took 18 sheets of 22" x 34" paper

You are certainly Industrious !

Just wondering ... Did you print the Originals or my layouts ?

I've never printed plans for foamys as I have always had my CNC.

And SRA: thanx for the Comps.
Some guys "get it some guys don't.

It's good to have friends in engineering who also"get it"

I printed the originals, I don't think the file you posted was large enough to survive a blow up without pixelating

Once taped together, I will cut individual parts out with scissors and lay them out like you did
