I agree the Devil 420 would be your best bet for your next heli. I have the D380 and D420 and have owned a G500 and I would say the D420 is the best bet for all around cost. It's still a fairly good size in the air and I feel no need to get a more expensive 500 size, I would just jump to a 700 if I want larger

Next update. Again great quality by ALZRC. Everything fitted perfectly. I needed to fit two spacers on the main shaft and luckily only one was needed for the sub shaft, as the second one was needed between the motor drive gear (with the one way bearing) and the tail drive gear.
The holes weren't needed to tighten the red spacers between the upper and lower plates, but are a nice touch. The bevel gears mesh nicely. I had to remove a small amount of carbon from the frame on the RHS, for the lower plate to clip into the slot. I couldn't find the cap head screw (shown in the manual) for the tail servo arm, so I just used the phillips head one supplied in the servo accessories bags. Make sure you use thread lock on the servo arm screws. The hole I used in the servo arm was about 17mm from the center. When you center the arm make sure you allow for the angle of the servo verses the tail. Also make sure you use the 4 longer screws to mount the tail servo. The servos are nice and have no play at all. I'm really enjoying this build. |

FYI, the cyclic servos in the 505 appear to be Deko servos.
http://www.hawk-creation.com/index.p...roduct_id=5156 Could be good to know for gear replacements. Edit: JPF, has pointed out below that the servos look more like GDW servos and I have to agree. |

But it's always hard to tell with servos because the same manufacturer might make servos with different case designs and colours that are ultimately sold under a range of brand names. |

Yes that GDW case does look more like the supplied servos and I see they have a brushless servo BLS895 that looks like the supplied tail servo. I'll amend my earlier post. Thanks.

Thanking you both for the useful information here regarding the D420 & D505 Super Combo. I've decided to go for the D420 as that size fits my budget and my nerves for now. I can fly the 230s without SAFE (Stabilisation turned fully off) and perform intermediate 3D. Took me 2 years of flying 3D & SIM to get to this level. I have a few more questions: 1) Is the Kbar good enough to begin with? Like would i have any issues configuring anything or is there any known issues with them? 2) What receiver/satellite would i need for my setup. I'm using a Spektrum Dx6i transmitter. 3) Also, could you point me in the right direction as to what tools, lubricants, thread lock ill need? 4) What were the optional skids to make it more stable. Can you link me up please ? Appreciate all the help and sorry for all the questions as this is my first build. Thanks & regards, Jake |

^ I fly nothing but k-bars now and I think they are terrific. I'm just a sport flyer but they have been great. Receiver any DSMX one is fine. I use a Lemon RX on my 380 and am going to use the same on the 420 I'm beginning to build now.
Blue loctite is what you will need for nearly all of it. A bit of CA glue for the bearing on the tail fin and some green loctite for the other tail bearing I believe. its hard to find so I just used blue instead and its been fine. Whatever you do don't use red loctite as it is nearly impossible to remove. These are the skids they are suggesting.... https://www.banggood.com/ALZRC-Devil...l?rmmds=search I agree with them that the stock flippers are trickier to land and see in the air but I've gotten used to them. I had a couple of rough landings that put a small crack in my canopy until I got better with them. Of course after a major crash that canopy is long gone LOL. |

As qcman says, the Kbar that comes with the Super Combo is fine providing you dont want 'rescue' functionality. They actually fly just like the Vbar from which they are coppied, which is high praise.
Tools:
Along with the stuff qcman mentioned that's about it really, other than common household tools such as standard screwdrivers and pliers, and some sticky back Velcro for retaining the batteries. I'm also a fan of Lemon Rx satellite receivers, i prefer them to the original Spektrum ones. PS.. the 420 kits dont come with enough of the little red finishing washers so best order up a couple of bags: https://www.banggood.com/ALZRC-Devil...p-1074296.html |

Hi Jake. Further to the info and good advice so far, here are the links to the Devil manuals and the Goblin 420 manual:
http://www.alzrc.com/download.html http://www.goblin-helicopter.com/sho...ease-1.1.L.pdf They contain information at the beginning on what you will need to build the heli and make good reading while you await the arrival of your new heli. |

Next update. Quality of the swashplate and head are excellent.
All of the balls on the swashplate need to be tread locked. The swashplate has zero play. Just a single screw holds the CF anti-rotate bracket. Because of this, make sure you use a good amount thread lock on the screw. You wouldn't want it to come loose. Make sure you pull the head apart. It looks like it's ready to fly but it isn't, which I prefer. There is no thread lock on the spindle shaft screws and the thrust bearings are dry. The blade holder bears also need to be glued in. I used medium thread lock (green). Make sure you seat them properly before the thread lock takes hold. Don't over grease the thrust bearings. One of the outer races of the thrust bearing has a larger ID. This needs to go on the inside and the open part of the thrust bearing should face inwards (most of you probably already know this). You will need two 4mm Allen Keys to release and tighten the blade holders. The manual suggested one extra spacer on the spindle shaft between the blade holder and the rotor housing for 3D and higher head speeds. They are very thin, so I fitted this. There are 4 in total in the packet. The spindle shaft screws are not very long so make sure you use plenty of thread lock on them. I used a tooth pick to apply plenty in the spindle threads. Once the spindle shaft screws are tightened the head is smooth and free of play. ALZRC have supply 3 additional threaded rods for the servo to swash plate rods. The threads on the ones in the bag with the links are a bit rough. Another sign that ALZRC wants this kit to be of a high quality. All of the pushrod lengths in the manual are very close to what they need to be. *claps* I had fun getting the radius arm plastic rods onto the swashplate with fingers (fingers were a bit tied after screwing on all of the links without using a link holder). ALZRC was facing out, so I ended up using a plumbers pipe wrench to click them on. They weren't too tight once fitted. All good so far. Motor next... |

I was concerned that the motor supplied with the 505 combo wasn't powerful enough, looking at the specs on Banggood's site, but then I looked up the motor on ALZRC's site and the specs on Banggood's are incorrect. Attached are the actual specs for the BL4120-PRO 1200KV:
