I have a 40FP that I have only run for break-in ... runs very smooth. I also had a 15 FP on a Dynaflite Butterfly ... That was fine running engine!

EDIT: wooops, you did say SF, I somehow read FP ... disregard above ...

SF is an older ball bearing engine; sturdy & reliable. Not sure the power quite compares to the new FX line of engines but certainly much better than the current OS line of sleeve bearing engines- that miserable excuse for an engine: The LA series (if you buy two, you can use 'em for book ends). I have a few SF engines and they're all good performers.

Sloping off....

Superb engine, one of the best I've ever had (the other best one being an OS .25 SF), very easy to operate, pretty powerful for it's size and now quite sought after as being more bullet proof and with better longevity than it's replacement the FX series.

You picked up a good one.

Guess I got a pretty good deal @ $45 considering it had never been used.
I have put 6 flights on it this weekend.

the RC guy!!!
hey yoda,

well just wanted to give you some information about the SF series engines!!! these are the dual ball bearing, long stroke engines, often adjudged better than even the FX series of OS!!!! they had probably the best metallurgy on these engines!!! and they are long lasting, and had some variants like the ringed and the non-ringed ones too!!! i am using about 5 of these engines even today, in india - all SF's and they are doing good work!!! you have really got a deal for USD 45 if you got that!!!

well happy landings and enjoy ur SF engine!!!

sam.

I have an OS 46 SF and I have been very happy with it. Parts are kind of getting hard to find for them so be good to it.

I use 15% Sig Champion because mine has been used so much the compression is low, but it still runs great!!
I understand it ingested some prop blast driven dust while running one day at the local airfield, the original owner was very displeased.
One of my favorite engines and no slouch on power.

i have 3 os.46sf engines...all have been modified with dave shadel's abc piston/sleeves...i've observed other flyers w/ os.40sf engines, and imho, they were a notch better overall...i think the thicker cylinder wall did the trick...you have a great engine...w/ sus bearings and added castor, the engine will outlive you...
...oops...just noticed that this thread is about 6 years old!!!...OP last posted about 4 years ago...probably moved on to another hobby, LOL...ken

The reason that you don't hear much about them is because they are such reliable engines that throttle great and that produce good power, even to this day. Folks are busy flying them and not complaining about them on the internet. <G>

I love my OS .46SF and .61SF's.

The BEST? I don't know but for a 40FX I'd use the same fuel I use for my other engines - Omega 15% or CoolPower 15%.

You did real well . That is a fine engine . Treat it with care and it will give you many years of service .

It would be a fine engine in any 40 sized plane .
