Camping & Hotels

Dry camping on the field and RV parking are possible. There are no services, so RV’s need to be self sufficient.
A multitude of affordable hotels are located within a 30-minute drive in Eloy and Casa Grande.

The TA truck stop at Exit 203 (Toltec Road) has 24 h showers, and a great selection of beer. Not sure if you take a six-pack into the shower.

Registration

Please register using the F3xVault.

Update #1:

Registration is possible until Saturday's pilot meeting, after which we will seed the contest.

Due to the large number of pilots, registration will close on midnight October 29 (Sunday). 3 groups per round. On Monday I will generate the seed and publish the pilot matrix. That will allow you to get familiar with your flight groups and identify potential timers for each round. To keep the contest moving, we will only pause for 5 minutes between tasks and groups.

We'll have several slots in the matrix for late arrivals, but with pre-assigned names, i.e "Walkon One", etc. Don't worry, we know who you are and where you live!

Update #2: If at all possible, bring at least one back-up plane, fully trimmed and with charged batteries. Each pilot will be given one (1) chance to stop the countdown if a problem arises, and will be given one (1) minute to swap planes. Fly first, fix later.

If you're not familiar with the rules & regs for this event, then please read pages 28 - 35 of the attached 2017 FAI Sporting Code

sc4_vol_f3_soaring_17

The entry fee is $40, payable at the event or via PayPal, and includes Saturday and Sunday lunches. No dinners on the field - we'll decide where to congregate Saturday night during the lunch break. Most likely it'll be at the Golden Corral Buffet in Casa Grande.

Cheers, Charles

How late on Sunday do you expect to fly? I'm thinking through the logistics for travel from San Diego.

Our deadline is 3 pm, and AZ will be 1 hour ahead of California. You could be back home before 8 p.m.

We'll have a rolling lunch on Sunday, and schedule the last round so that we stop flying no later than 2 pm. That'll give us time to compile scores while you pack your belongings before the awards ceremony.

I've got it on the calendar! I'll wait to say for sure until closer to the event, but the drive from San Diego is pretty easy, and November in Phoenix is usually pretty nice. Looking forward to it!

Just getting into DLG, this would be my 3rd contest. I've got it on the calendar! I'll wait to say for sure until closer to the event. May bring RV to the field or go to Silverado RV Park. Wife and I love dry camping.
