I've had one for a little while, but haven't flown it yet. (House move got in the way!)

Construction is robust and a little on the heavy side. This should make it stronger than the competitive speed 400 racers. With a motor upgrade to one of the small brushless setups (I got the Kontronic for mine) it should make a great sport model.

I just got my VIP and man it's sweet. Like Dave said a little heavy but should hold up well. I bought the Kontronics motor set-up and its ready to go. Thanks to Sal for his great customer service, I got this thing overnighted and it show up the next day as planned. Cannot wait to fly it, I will keep you posted!!!

I had two flights today on the VIP. The sucker is fast let me tell you. Once you get the controls right it's a very smooth airplane. Thanks Sal, this is one great fun fast sucker!

What Kontronik motor are you guys using? The FUN400-23 on 7x600cells?

I'm looking for a racer in this size and the VIP looks good...

I use the Fan drive which is the same motor as the Kontronik drive 150 but different wind. It is a Fun 400-28. Goes the blazes!
The Fun 400-23 works well too but you need to use the 5 x 5 prop. I get pretty close to full vertical performance.

I'm running a Hacker B20 15L, Jeti 18A controller, 8-600ae cells and a 4.7 x 4.7 CAM prop from Aero-Model.com. Yes it's plenty fast. The airframe is excellent and I believe unless you are a very serious competitor the slight bit of extra weight is no bother considering the durability it adds. I don't always have the best fields to land in so that counts for a lot.

Thanks for the replies guys - appreciated. I was wrongfully under the impression that the VIP is a little bigger than most s400's. I am looking for something in a "s480" class to fit my gear in.

I have the Kontronik FUN400-28/BL480-33 and 8x700AR/CP1300Z that I wanted to use and for that I need a bigger airframe. So basically I would like a 36-40" ship. The Graupner Munga looks sweet although I'm not against rolling my own - time willing

Since my MotoCalc eval.version have expired - can anybody check what kind of A's the 400-28/BL480-33 will draw on the mentioned 8cell packs and CAM4,75x4,75/5x5 props?

Sal - the Kontroniks do indeed kick butt I have their FUN400-36 in an EJF F-18 fed by 10zCP1700's. 410W peak Mike says thats max....

Thanks again,
Haldor

Have any of you had trouble getting your VIP to balance on the CG? Mine has the 1005/4Y, EZ30, and a Hitec 555 Rx. I am trying to get it to balance on a 7 cell 600AE pack. I'm about 2-3mm aft of the recommended 33mm CG.

I fly mine with the fun400-23 w/7-600ae. It flies great with the 5x5 prop. I have 15 flights with no problems, great airframe that is a little heavy but so what! Its fast and durable....can't beat that! Sal, any chance of offering some more colors?

Gregg - thanks for the numbers. I was able to do a couple of brief test runs on both combo's and got:

FUN400-28,CAM5x5 on 8x700AR => 200W 22A
FUN400-28,CAM5x5 on 8xCP1300Z => 240W 26A
BL480-33,CAM5x5 on 8xCP1300Z => 400W 45A
Dont know how accurate these measurements are as the prop most surely is stalled in static mode. Atleast the BL480 should manage that. Boy what a fierce scream that combo generates Dunno if the 480 will be happy at that load though...
No 4,75x4,75 to try yet...

J Berg - I am not very worried about the weight of the VIP with 7-8x600AE's but I doubt 8x700AR will fit at all so I want something a tad bigger. The 400-23 is potent enough for a plane like the VIP.

Pour on tha Watts!

I got mine about a month ago, and it is heavy. About 15.5 oz with your VIP legal motor package, 2 x .32 oz servos, and a .40 oz Extreme 5.

Did I get the last of the heavies? Was it because I requested an unpopular color? (yellow with red trim)

Regarding color choice, I couldn't get a definitive list of what is available, nor a guarantee that I would get what I wanted. What colors are available now?

BTW, everyone that sees it at Charlotte Aeromodelers is impressed with the construction and flying quality.

*ggg*
I definetely would not recommend this in an S400. But it's a great combo for first steps with a real F5D ship. I use 8 CP 1700 and a 5,5x5,5 with the 3SL70. Very nice going. No problems for the motor.
