1/2A "Performance" Planes - Plans of Outerzone & Their RCG Build Logs

TL;DR version - List of zippy/aerobatic 1/2A planes with plans on Outerzone AND their RCGroups Build Logs, if there are any

As I got into a build of the 1/2A Hornet from plans I downloaded from outerzone.co.uk, the idea came to mind to take performance-oriented 1/2A designs I could find on OZ and link to their build logs, here on RCG.
First things first, thank you Steve (OZ) for sharing your investment of time with the rest of the world. I hang out on OZ too much - ha.
I started this list as blog figuring it might be found by somebody searching on those things on RCG.
I thought I would come up with a total of 10, maybe 15, tops, plans from OZ.
I was floored with the number of designs I found and then others joined in adding to the list.
It turns out there weren't many build logs for these plans, so moving the list here might encourage people to create those build logs when they use plans from oz to build.

Criteria: Planes differentiated from calm, lazy, schoolyard flying - planes with some potential zip.
For some planes, it was obvious they were designed for pattern or "extreme" sport, maybe even on the competitive level.
A lot of planes were designed to be slippery but didn't make any big conspicuous claims.
Others sort of live on the edge of any definition but might do well for some speed and agility.
Descriptions of plans that made the list included tags like 1/2A, pattern, and sport.
I completely excluded the term "scale" in my searches, so far, but warbirds probably could probably fit if someone has suggestions.
Shoulder, mid and low-wing aircraft have a jump to make the list - but there are few high wing designs in the list .
Plans with symmetric and semi-symmetric airfoils generally made the list.
Plans for some flat-bottomed airfoils made the list.

If you do build and link a build log ,here, there are also other galleries to send pics to, like:
1. the Balsa Builders Outerzone Gallery - Here
2. The 1/2A Forum 1/2A Pics Gallery: Here
3. The Balsa Builders Naked Wood Gallery (Categorized as a "Cool" type of thread): Here
4. Take Videos of your 1/2A flights and post at the threa xplaneguy started: Here
5. REAL Performance - Amp Abuser is the current godfather of speed - this goes way beyond my current abilities but I like to read about how he is maxxing out engines: 1/2A Speed .010 to .15 Size
If there are other good places to share pics, etc. of build, pass them on and I will add to this list.

The set of 1/2A planes in quasi performance category on outerzone include:

Nice list. You've obviously spent a little time on OZ searching for these. My brief "1/2A" searches weren't as fruitfull. I've built/owned/flown a few of those and enjoyed each one. Still fly some of them. The Sharkface is on the soon-to-do list as well.

Hey Tee Bee - you're one of the leaders. You leave great breadcrumbs along the way on your youtube channel, glad you are active again. If you are doing any new builds of planes with plans on outerzone, maybe you can do a build log - even just a few pics along the way. SMALL should spawn quite a few build logs, what with that fleet that heads to AR every spring.

I spend too much time on outerzone. I can see I will never build all these planes, so hopefully others will add build logs to live through, vicariously.

I'm having the exact same problem myself with that thread. I can't get it to load any vids unless it's on the last page and there are only a few downloaded. Once the page gets past half full then my various computers and devises choke and I can't get anything to show.

Thanks Pete! Sorry to read about the 1/2A Videos thread choking issues. I would love to have all of those great videos on a dedicated YouTube Channel but that's not possible.

Among all models consider as a possibility the lanier shrike 10. Plans are not available in internet but some kit should still be available. Eventually similar plans can be found in my blog. They just need to be printed in the right size and modified for the needs.

I just watched your video of the Shrike-like beast - I'm interested (who wouldn't be, ha).
Let's see if we can get the Shrike plans on OZ- bring it into the family.

I already tryed, but no plans available. If you want I just placed the image of my blog in a dimension proportional to A4 sheet, now you can use "posteriza" program, that you can download from my blog, to print it. Instruction to use it are in the comments of my F15 post. If you print it in a 3x3 size you will have roughly 60 (24")cm wingspan, if you print it in 4x4 you will get 80 cm (32") wingspan. You can also look to the shrike photos in internet to find inspiration for fusolage modifications. Regarding the airfoil I woud suggest the goe445, but if you believe it to be too thin you can go for a NACA0008 or NACA0010. If you go for a built up wing do not forget that you can print the single ribs with the program "profili". Finally if you go for a foam cut wing you could cut it with only the central airfoil hinging the wire in the intersection of leading and trailing edge; in this case you need to know that foam must be 2"/3" longer than the wing as the tip will usually come out defective and will need to be cut off.

Thanks for the share. Yours is a real performer.
Well, I have a start on getting plans to OZ. My Quest is to keep this thread aligned with what's available on OZ. I am in the process of at least getting the 1/2A Shrike plans - they are paid for and on the way, now. I will keep my eye out for the other size plans.

Are you OK if Steve puts the White Electrician up on OZ?

Yeah, sure : at the end they are not mine, but Joe Beshar's.
If you are able to have the original plans would it be possible to receive a scanning? Also privately.
I do not really need them, but I would like anyway to have at least an image of them.

Maybe someone could find the "Das Wunder" That one should rate for the list. I had a copy that was tiled somewhere.
