Dynaflite Super Decathlon build thread

Here is the one thread I could not find, so I may as well write it myself.
I finnaly decided to go ahead and build the kit I bought $#&*$ time ago, and Iit looks like I am going to post some photos in this thread.

The first two photos are of the box-o-stuff and what was in it. I then move to the tail assembly, all as described in the plans.

Tail assembly complete

The keen looker will see that the photos where all taken the same evening. That is because there is not much work in between, and I did bathe the kids and had dinner in between.
Thail assembly photos, and the ruller in the photo is a 6" for reference. Yes, I do have planes that way less ready to fly...

The hand in the photo was put there on purpose: it whoes the lamination process used to create the elevator shape

And I had to stand on a chair in order to take the photo.

More photos shortly...

Hinjing the rudder and started the ribs

{mRqS - thanks for the link, very nice post}

Project progress: Jinged the tail control surfaces with a GP slot mchine. Don't like it. Also, you need a new larger set of blades than the ones in the box, and more $$. Ohhhh.... Ended up using the good old du-bro slotter.

Started doubling the wing ribs with the ply parts.

You starting the best part of building I see

Wings are easy to build. Just be careful with proper wash-out.

Yesterday I uploaded new pics with engine mount. I had to "invent" a special semi-soft mount to install my ZDZ-40 motor.
Now trying to mount a throttle and choke valve levers on Walbro carburetor.

I'm also (slowly) building this kit. Powerplant is "BennetBuilt" US 41cc gas. Only have tail surfaces and one wing half done. Sorry, not much help. I'm curious as to how you guys are going to tackle the starburst pattern for the covering.....

I planned to use a Oratex or Solartex to cover first, so I would have to cut stars manualy.

Due to fact, that real Decathlons are high-glossy finished, I'll probably use oracover. In this fact, I can cut stars on the cutting plotter.

Here is my choosen scheme:

The other possibility is to not use starburst pattern.

something like this for example:

Look here: http://www.amerchampionaircraft.com/newac/newmain.htm

Citabria has semisymmetrical airfoil, Decathlon symmetrical.
There are many other differences: engine power, wingspan, weight, propeller etc.

Citabria is not fully aerobatic.
Decathlon is fully aerobatic: +6, -5 g's

Brad,

Go to the web site given above for the full scale aircraft and see the standard star burst scheme. Not quite so complex and it is perfectly scale. I used it because the full scale I modeled had it and I liked the color combination.

PM me and I will send you some pictures.

Navigation lights

Q1:
What is the best way to wire the navigation lights in the rudder / elevator?
Q2:
Also, can anyone point out the best source for the light locations / blinking speed / order / colors?

Thank you for the inspoiration, Marek...

Tomer
