Yes CF rods and CF sheets are much lighter and stronger which are not available in India, these days shipping from outside is also harder cause of drones, people are flying them every where getting batters and tx&rx is almost banned in customs . some stores got CF sheets but they are very expensive fiberglass is inexpensive reason y i use them but working with them is irritating cause of fiber itch . i will definitely try 1.5 mm i m not from any engineering background i don't know how to program usually the birds and planes which i make i don't use any kind of calculations "It just got to me." thanks for your suggestion ZTEX looking forward for more wants to make servo powered ornithopter also regards vijay |

Glass and carbon fiber dust are very bad for breathing, too. When possible, use water to keep the dust from getting into the air in the first place.

Here are some photos of a new orni that I just maidened. It is an enlarged copy of the Kestrel designed and built by Dr. Kazu. I built a similar size as his 4 years ago and now enlarged it by 40% to 50" wing span. Total length is 24" wing cord is 10" weight is 168 G. Motor Turnigy 2211-2300 on a 610MA 2 cell LIPO 12A ESC and ripstop kite covering. The gear box bearings are 3 MM from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-Miniat....c100010.m2109
and the gears are 78 tooth delrin .5M also from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-pcs-big-g...item4b08b3264d The bearings and gears are very inexpensive. I doubled up the main drive gears to handle the extra stress of the 25" wings. Rather than pinion wire, I used long 12 tooth pinion gears from Hobby King. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/pinion-g...m-12t-1pc.html 3MM hardened steel shafts are found in most CD & DVD players from computers or video systems. They work well if you grind a flat on them. The parts were inexpensive but the design and construction requires good mechanical skills to product a gear box with proper ear mesh and low friction. The gears do not have a metal collar with set screw, so I used wheel collars fitted over the flange on the gear. |

Kazu and Sam have gotten to where they are because they have devoted so much of themselves to their craft. If you have the dedication, the time, and the passion you will get there too!

Very nice flyer Vijay. If I were to suggest anything I would like to see a greater increase in flapping amplitude. Great ornithopter. Thanks for sharing :-)

it got more power I just use half throttle for take off and fly it in 30 % 40 % throttle bird weight is around 140 grams with battery its 180 grams very light weight it might take 50 grams payload sure I have two more birds in line i will try to increase |

It should handle more amplitude. And it will add more thrust without increasing the flapping rate. Kazu uses 59 degrees of amplitude on his peregrine falcon, and Musters seemingly uses even more than that on his - I'm gonna guess around 70 degrees. And the old air hogs "cybergawk" has an agressive 80+ degrees climbing like a beast! Personally I just prefer a faster more aggressive bird.
