What cells are you using in your Sokols?

Hey Sokol pilots,

what type of cells and how many are you running in your Sokols to get a decent performance/flying time? Are 700ARs too big for the fuse?

Hi Jensst,

Most speed 400 Sokols are running on 7 and 8 cell 600 AE's.

I fly mine on 7 cells with a 6 volt speed 400.

Performance is great and run time is 3-4 minutes. Don't be disapointed with the time as it is a very busy 3-4 minutes.

I don't know how big a 700AR cell is so I can't help you there. You do want to keep the plane light.

Regards,

Jeff

There is a lot of room in the Sokol fuse, if you push the elevator servo behind the wing(like I did), but I am not sure if you can balance the plane with 7 x 700AR in it. I have to push the barttery all the way forward to get the balance right.

Did you guys ever notice a difference between the 600AEs and the green 500ARs, concerning performance and battery temperature?!

I can get zapped 600AEs ($2/ea.) and 500ARs ($2.20/ea.) over in Germany, so I have to make a choice about the cells.

I flew mine with 7 x 500AR's on 6V 400 advanced. Also use the QRP racing sp400. The QRP 400 runa BOUT 15% higher rpm than the stock sp400.

I'm using 6 Tadiran LiM cells. That's a 9V, 1600mah pack that weighs just over 100g or 3.5oz. Of course, I'm using a Astro 010 at 5A and the plane weighs about 10oz.

It was my understanding that zapping does not help the 600AE (or and "AE" cell).
