Top Flite P-40E Warhawk .60 kit build Electric conversion

This is my third build, I'll try to make more detailed pictures this time, this P-40E will be equipped with a Turnigy SK3 5055 430Kv motor, Zippy 6200mAh 6s 40c Battery, Turnigy 100Amp ESC , Master Airscrew 16x10x3 blade, 2000mAh 5s NiMH 6V Rx battery, E-Flite electric rotating retractible landing gear 60-120, HK Óleo struts, Robart scale wheels, I will cover it with mate grey Monokote on the bottom, mate Tan Monokote on top and will spray paint the camo green waves, will finish it after applying decals with satin clear coat spray. I bought a P-40 cockpit kit from a guy who sales them here in RC Groups called unclegeorge I hope it will fit just fine.

I assume the motor is the SK3 5055-430kv unit. I would strongly suggest that motor would be quite overtaxed turning a 16 x 10 x 3 blade prop. Keep the motor below 60A max and they live quite well. By all means use a 3 blade prop, but either 15 or 14 inch to keep power levels safe for the motor. jm2cw Doug B

Subscribed! Always loved the P-40 and have this same project on my "bucket list".

I've heard the TF P-40 can be a bit of handful though, with poor ground handling.

Stab progress, this kit looks easier than the T-34B I did before, only time will tell.

Hi, I'll use a gyro that activates only with the landing gear in the down position if the bird gives signs of not cooperating on takeoffs and landings, I have it installed on my TF AT-6 with a great result in ground handling.

Hi Doug, I have this same setup in a TF Corsair .60 and in a TF T-34 .60 and had no problems, I fly the models half to 3/4 throttle (scale) for 7 min. I could do an Amp and Watt test to see the performance. Have you done this tests on this same setup to share?

Mauricio.

The manual calls for 3/32 x 3/8 x 36 bala sticks to do the ribs of the elevators but the only sticks i found on the kit are 30 inches long, I'm guessing is a typo, if not then I'll have to go and buy more.

I'm done with the stab, elevator, fin and rudder, on the manual and plan the information regarding the shape of the elevator and rudder is very limited is a good thing this is my third kit and I have done it before, it is similar to the corsair. Tomorrow I will start with the wing.

I use the same motor in my TF P-40, with a Ramoser Scale Prop @ 75A on 6S 4500mAh, Works well.

Also the P-40 flies well, no issues on the ground or in the air.

Good luck with your build!

I'm changing the way the ailerons work on this kit, just don't trust the one servo system, too many moving parts, I will add one servo for each aileron with a servo bay on each side of the wing panels.

I just finished the Right wing panel there are quite a few discrepancies on the manual stock sticks and blocks measurement and the actual stock pieces for example, it asks for a 9 inch long plywood stick and it turns out is 8 1/4 long this did not happened with the other Top Flite kits I did before. I have to serch several times before I just go with the piece I think it is hoping for the best.

Done joining the wing panels, sheeted the bottom of the wing, retracts are fitted just need to open the wheel bays once the top is sheeted.

Because I'm using E-flite electric rotating retracts I had to file down the retract base to fit between the ribs, also I had to carve the bottom spar in order to acomodar the strut wire, because of that I reinforced the spar in that section by adding hard wood.
