The Fokker Dr.I (Dreidecker, "triplane" in German) was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.I saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became famous as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories, and in which he was killed on 21 April 1918.

In February 1917, the Sopwith Triplane began to appear over the Western Front.Despite its single Vickers machine gun armament, the Sopwith swiftly proved itself superior to the more heavily armed Albatros fighters then in use by the Luftstreitkräfte.In April 1917, Anthony Fokker viewed a captured Sopwith Triplane while visiting Jasta 11. Upon his return to the Schwerin factory, Fokker instructed Reinhold Platz to build a triplane, but gave him no further information about the Sopwith design.Platz responded with the V.4, a small, rotary-powered triplane with a steel tube fuselage and thick cantilever wings, first developed during Fokker's government-mandated collaboration with Hugo Junkers.

Buyed here, arrived well packaged. 2 balsa sheets was cracked. Plywood is heavy and layers easy unstuck. Balsa selection is worst.

About "carbon parts" - I don't know why chineses are so sure that if they paint the fiberglass in black, it will become carbon fiber??? However it's GF and rods are bended enough.

Maybe if they keep posting this pig's ear, again and again, it will one day magically morph into a decent kit?.....? or a decent representation of a Fokker Dr1?...

Naw, crap is ALWAYS crap, no matter HOW MANY times it might get launched for another smell test!!

I don't know if anyone is still following this thread. Regardless, here are some pics of this same Dr.1 that I built over the past couple of months.

It was a challenge as the instructions are virtually nonexistent and I had to rely on some of the posted pics to determine what went where. All the items listed as deficient showed up in my model as well. The fixes were fairly simple though. I only had a couple of parts left over that I could not locate in any of the pictures included.

Using a 1000mAh 3S Zippy compact the CG came out spot on. I went with the recommended 7x5 CF prop and the PROPDRIVE V2 2830 1000KV Brushless Outrunner Motor. At full throttle, there's not much thrust. I'm thinking a larger prop might help as the cowling is quite large. I've yet to measure the amperage & power but doubt it's much.

As winter has set in here in the Northwest, I probably won't be able to maiden it until spring. If anyone has any experience flying this little tyke, I would appreciate hearing of your experience.

Yeah, we're still following it! I think your plane came out pretty well! Particularly so considering the quality of the kit you had to work with!

How well it flies will be the real test. I was a bit concerned about the angle of incidence of each wing but they came out pretty closely aligned, at least to the extent that I could measure with my gauge.

Every DR.1 I've seen fly, from medium size to large, seemed to be a handful, especially along the roll axis. I put a stabilizer in mine in the hopes that it would help it fly like a bigger plane.

The real challenge will be waiting until spring for a decent day. For now it'll be a hanger frau...
