PC police are getting WAY out of hand. Now little kids can't even have a little Halloween fun.

That's just plain rediculous. I can see not having hallowe'en parties when your in high school, but 6th graders and under shouldn't have to miss out on a tradition that is important and valued in children's minds. I love halloween. I already have plans for the weekend this year. A youth group meeting, which is a spoof on Amazing Race, and a party Sunday night and maybe some trick or treating. Except we usually give our candy to little kids(we take some for ourselves too) Also, 1/2 an hour is not going to have any effect on a child's education. The time they spend thinking about how they aren't going to have any fun on halloween will be worse then spending 1/2 hour having fun. Then again, they would probably spend all day thinking about it, so why not turn it into a lesson? Teach them about the history of halloween, what witcehs were when they mattered(not like Wiccas!), and Salem. Stuff like that!!

And it being insulting to the Wiccan religion? So what? Try telling companies that make caricatures of witches to stop making them because some weird cult is offended by it. By my memory, halloween was around for a long while before 2000. Wiccas need to suck it up and stop being so easily offended.

That article reeks of boo-urns!

Actually, being neither Wiccan nor Christian, I find the Wiccas make a lot more sense then the Christians. Helluva lot less violent too.

Yup...around here, the bible belt bushies hatred for halloween is second only to their hatred for reproductive freedom for women...

In this town of 20,000 or so, I used to get at least 100 to 150 trick or treaters every halloween...last year, I got only 15 or 20....

A lot of the local 'christians' around here refuse to participate in this tradition... the congregation of one local baptist church organized last year and handed out bible tracts explaining the sinfull nature of the holiday to all the trick or treaters...

I knew of people like this when I was a kid, but they were few and far between and generally regarded as superstitious lunatics by normal people...these days they seem to be ruling the world...all the way to the whitehouse.

Another American tradition destroyed by the right wing wackos...

Another wholesome tradition and institution of American youth fallen to the lunacy of liberal thinking politically correct wackos.

Halloween to join the ranks of the Red Ryder, keeping score, Boy Scouts, hunting, the Chiefs, Braves, and Indians, Christmas season, and fireworks....very sad.

Never stop learning!
I don't know about other areas, but the area that I live in is definitely Christian and conservative. My county has 10,000 or so residents. In our phone book that covers 2 counties(less that 100 pages), there are TWO full pages of church listings. Our City Council starts each public meeting with a prayer.
The City and local businesses sponser a Trick or Treat night every year....great fun for the kids! I too have fond memories of Halloween. Shame on the folks who wish to deprive our youngsters of a good time, with no intent to offend anyone.
I am proud to live in an area that has good people and values.....and knows how not to get bent out of shape over seemingly nothing.

LTChip- Well said. I've never been able to understand why people allow these insidious, self-serving politicians to control their every thought and move. As Eddie Chiles used to say "FIRE 'EM" - Jim

It is sure nice that they have all their problems solved so that is the most important thing they have to do!

It is not like they are all ( the kids) going to turn into devil worshipers and start eating human flesh! Far worse can be seen on many tv stations!

Most kids are going to look at it as a time to dress up in a fun costume and get some goodies.

That's ridiculous. Have any of these Wicca complained? Anyway, Halloween has got nothing to do with Wicca, it started in ancient Ireland in about 500BC and the Irish brought it to America in the 1840's.

We don't have Halloween here in Australia but some kids tried to get it going because they'd heard it was a good way to get some sweets...LOL...and a few companies tried to promote it as a way to make some money but it hasn't caught on because the majority of Aussies can't see the point to it. We've never had the tradition.

From the CNN link provided by three_tw above:

"You just don't do it on Sunday," said Sandra Hulsey of Greenville, Georgia. "That's Christ's day. You go to church on Sunday, you don't go out and celebrate the devil. That'll confuse a child."

That's right, they won't get confused if you celebrate the devil on any other day.

Celebrate the devil? I missed out on this part of the Halloween ritual. My son's high school mascot is the Red Devil's, guess they will all be in deep stuff on judgement day. What with the pep rallies, and cheering for the Red Devils and all. tt

Yeah, I dunno what's going on.. I remember going house to house trick or treating all the way into the teens. And my oldest got to enjoy trick or treating while we were in the military. But last year first year with the new house, we set up a great display.

How many kids on our block trick or treated? 2... my boys.. What was even worse all the houses but ours were dark and lifeless. What happened to Halloween? UG!

Would take my kids to the local festivals.. But There are only two.. Well, now only one I think. And it's so crowded it's no fun at all.

I should check and see if the city is doing this Saturday/Sunday thing.

Before you know it.. Halloween will be banned by the goverment cause it's Racial or something. :P

They are only having Halloween parades or parties for K and 1st grade at my daughters elementary school this year. The principal said it was because of the money the school would lose ( $30 a day per child the school loses from the state when a child is absent) when the kids were kept out of school by parents who objected to Halloween.

Once again the demented few dictate policy for the many.

Trick or Treating is a fairly new phenomenon here in the UK, and appears to consist of gangs of teenagers going from house to house, and intimidating the occupants into giving them money.

Occasionally, a young child (accompanied by an adult) makes an appearance, and gets rewarded for their efforts.

Too true Tim, to the extent that local shops are going to be refusing to sell eggs to teenagers next weekend apparently.

All Hallow's Eve is a long time tradition, what we always used to call Duck-Apple in years gone by and the traipsing from door to door part is definitely a new phenomenon.

As it's become commercialised it's moved what was harmless family fun into quite a scary night for OAPs and those who feel intimidated by demands for money with menaces. I put it down to a great Clinton conspiracy!
