FrSky R9 + R9M module 900Mhz (868Mhz EU) Long range system - TESTED!

Hey guys, check this out, Banggood has the FrSky L9 + L9R module system up on their website and supposedly that would be the asking price! This will be one killer system if it really workds as advertised!

I am getting over 20kms on the L9R receiver at 100mW Tx power. I can only imagive that those 10kms on 1W output for the R9 are grossly understated, especially if you switch off the telemetry option!

This will potentially be a HUGE game changed for us long range flyers that don't want to use 433Mhz with those large antennas! Best thing is with this system you can move video down to 2.4Ghz without suffering ANY bad effects from the radio system, and without using low-pass filters and similar stuff! And it will absolutely increase the range of the video system!

Absolutely will get one as soon as it is available and will do some proper tests, will publish here!

Edit: Well... system has finally arrived, and the first test is a fact, with excellent results:

FrSky R9M and R9 868Mhz long range video system test (EU legal) (8 min 1 sec)

Well... it is actually 22kms, and I am using the 5db FrSky antenna on my Taranis because I broke the stock 2db one, but other than that, all omni antennas, and I am sitting on a low chair, so Tx antenna is not too high above the ground!

mmh, 5dB makes it illegal, but a nice result

more than 25mW on 5.8 G also make you illegal...
other than 1280MHz in 1.3G band also make you illegal...

It had lower telemetry rate then the XJT system, but everything will work.

Actually not true! It would have been illegal if the antenna is directional! As it happens, this 5db FrSky antenna is omni directional, so it is still perfectly legal, as far as the 2.4Ghz system is concerned at this output power!

True that... can't really make it past 2kms without breaking the law... or breaking the bank!

It should be able to! It should be using the same S.PORT system as the other receivers, and there are some Pixhawk to S.PORT telemetry converters, I happen to own one, so will test it!

I think that is needed to make it work over a longer distance.

Gain is what matters... And the 5db omni is surely more directional.....

Not directional in that sense! Directional in the sense of a patch directional antenna, that is not an omni antenna but has a directed mean of some limited width and height!

It is actually not that unit! There were some Spanish guys making these units, I've had one for 2 years now... and still haven't tried it! I think the time for that is near.
