Mini-Review
iRangeX multimodule and WLToys microreceiver
banggood has recently been selling a selection of plug in modules for transmitters that enable them to utilise other protocols than the host transmitter, although up until recently they have been limited in their variety of compatibilities
although it was possible to flash them for other protocols, this required some degree of nerd capability, the latest iteration iRangeX IRX4 utilising stm32 firmware does a whole lot of protocols that are enabled via the transmitter interface on Taranis as long as the transmitter is updated to the 2.2 firmware for those users relatively new to taranis, this may be less painful than if you have a whole lot of stuff already programmed using 2.1, although in my limited applications prior, the model i wanted to move across did so painlessly there's a thread to help over here , where i wrote : things i would note for other potential owners :
my initial reaction is "wow! this is the module i was waiting for " yes, you need to have some clue as to flashing firmware and reading the recipes to help you make your own meal of it, but the potential is obvious, and i'm looking forward to the opportunity to play with some neat and cheap micro receivers from the online suppliers for spare parts this has been inspired in no small part (although in truth, they are all small parts) by the recent range of laser cut small biplanes (and now also some monoplanes) also over at banggood, like the se5a shown in my earlier review of an alternative microRx and because it was listed in the protocols, i ordered this rx : WLtoys F929 F939 12 Receiving Board Spare Part i can confirm that using the iRangeX i linked above (for taranis x9d plus), and with the module dialled to : external RF mode : MULT FlySky Std it binds easily with this technique :
it is already noted in the banggood questions and comments that the bind will need to be re-established each time you plug in a new battery, but it's hardly an arduous task also, the motor will apparently rev briefly on binding, so be aware and make sure it doesn't damage the plane when it does as for battery link, the plug attached to the rx is a proprietary one (for WLToys) that complicates life :
however, for a rudder / elevator setup, the aileron socket is free, and can take a simple 1.25mm mini molex extension to "normal" 1s micro batteries, so that does a fine job as the de facto power connection for 2 channel (plus throttle) - which is all the pup or se5a and others need the better solution will be to replace the power connector (when i get around to it) as a reference for micro connectors : https://micronwings.com/HintsAndTips/RCConnecorTypes/index.shtml great kit for very cheap, and bare auw is 5.1grams |

Hi, i bought a IrangeX IRx4 module last week, it works fine with Syma, FlySky but i don't get to work with WLToys (RC car A959)
I have another multiprotocol card, i plug it in the same transmitter with same configuration and it works fine... Anyone use irangex with WLToys? Thanks |
