Stainless Steel Eye Screws ?

Can anyone direct me to a source for small stainless eye screws with a wood screw thread? I'm looking for a size that can be used on the mast and booms on a Soling 1M.

Perhaps I haven't stumbled upon the proper search term, but these have been surprisingly hard to find. I can find steel and brass eye screws, but not stainless.

Thanks!

Leading Edge Hobbies in Canada has KDH brand screw eyes. I'm pretty sure they are stainless. http://www.leadingedgehobbies.com/we...t=1474&brand=0 page 3 in the list...about half way down

  • 3/16" Stainless Steel Screw Eye Rings
  • Screw Eye 8mm
  • 10x4mm Screw Eye
What do these things mean? I've been a mechanic/machinist (vehicle & industrial) for 50+ years and can accurately identify most screw and bolt sizes with eyeballometry, but these stupid descriptions offered by hobby store and ebay retailers are uselessly ambiguous.

The trade size of the screw eyes I want are #216 and #216-1/2 and according to the Home Depot website they're available in-store in 304 stainless steel. Who knew? (I'll believe it when I see it, though)

No joy at Home Depot. They don't even carry the Crown Bolt line that they advertise online, at least not in-store. Instead they carry the Everbilt line and they do have some stainless sizes, but not the size I'm looking for.

FWIW, they do carry the #216-1/2 size that I thought I wanted, but the wire size isn't big enough and the threaded part is too short. The threads on the #216 would be long enough, but the wire size would still be too small and H.D. doesn't stock them anyway.

Now I'm convinced that I want size #214 which may sound counter-intuitive, but smaller numbers mean bigger wire size. Dimensions for the #214 size can be found HERE and details for the #214-1/2 can be found HERE. For a Soling 1M sized boat with a wood mast and booms, the #214 should be the right size for the mast and the #214-1/2 should be the right size for the booms.

Now I just need to decide whether I can settle for brass or if I want to find them in stainless. I'm leaning towards stainless because the original eye screws that Victor provided were brass and the ones on the mast (for the stays & shrouds) bend quite easily.

Not sure if these are the correct size you want.

no eyes
but you cna use a pan head screw and then loop the shroud over it and crimp down.

you can also use tangs in place of eyes. much cleaner look IMO

I have no screw eyes or tangs on my booms or mast. thru drilled. if you join the soling one meter yahoo group there are hundreds of pics. with I thin one gallery set up just for mast/booms

I did use tangs for my lower spreader attachment and forestay. I'll take pics when I get home and post. I don't use the diamond

OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware) has 214 & 216 screw eyes in solid brass. It's not stainless but it won't rust.
