Another Volo (This time in Chicago)

I picked up a STD Volo from a local flier. It was built by Jim Frahm.

It was a fairly uneventful maiden since this thread is filled with settings and hints (and the air was stupid good for 10am on Sat). My thanks to Oleg and Randy West for additional info.

The CG was initially 95mm due to the battery location. Shifting the battery pack aft to the ballast mount puts the CG at 100mm. If 100mm seems too tame, I'll add some weight to the tail servo area to bring the CG to 103mm.

The receiver is velcro'd to the top of the fuse behind the canopy opening. I created a wire shield to keep the wires out of the way and relatively tidy.

The wire shield is made out of 14mil bagging mylar. The dimensions are 1.5inch x1.1875inch x 13.75inch. The shield ends about 0.5inches from the end of the tail servo boom when inserted.

The shield was split along it's length and 'hinged' with packing tape on both sides. To insert the shield, the shield is folded at the hinge and the 'ears' - like the letter 'M'. Velcro is used on the ears to keep it place.

Specs:
- FrSky Taranis / RX8R Pro RX with dipole antennas
- Tenshock 1515-15T with a GM 12x8 prop
- GN3 850mAh 4S (unfolded)
- 2S 300mAh LiFe pack for backup
- AUW is 51oz

Ben, thanks for posting the pics.
The wire shield - is it just floating inside the fuselage? Attached only at the front end by the ears. Correct? So the ballast simply pushes it up when inserted?

A few more Volos arrived to my house yesterday.
All gorgeous as always.
Some of the customers who have been patiently waiting will be glad to see them. I will be re-packaging and shipping them out within a day or two.

Yes, the shield will float. The only wire bundle past the main joiner is for the tail servos.

It is a Light version, but may have a little extra weight due to paint.

It will look very cool though.

Curious minds need to know. What are the two tubes above the 2-piece fuselage in your nice case?
