3D Printed monster truck.
I just released a 3D printable monster truck design: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2299884
Working on improving the reliability of the drive joints. The gears are strong though. Three diffs and four wheel steering. |

Thanks. Here's a video of it driving outdoors. It has a 21 turn GoolRC brushed motor and a 7,2V 4500 Ni-MH battery.

I decided to make a pickup body for it so I made this tonight. Modeled after my Marui Big Bear, with modifications to fit the longer wheelbase truck. It must be printed in three parts because of the size. I'm printing the nose and cabin now.

That's awesome! Keep us up to date. I would love to see how it handles off-road, and if the PLA holds up. Or is it ABS?

It's PLA. Very strong. I'll try to find something to jump from. Trouble is I live in the arctic so everywhere is still either covered in snow, or very muddy from the melting snow. My front wheels still use an old version of the drive joints, which is much weaker, so I expet them to strip out soon. The new ones in the rear seem to be strong enough.
I would like to finish the body before I make another video. I'll probably be done with it tomorrow. |

Oh man I wish I was clever enough to do stuff like this, even just to make custom parts let alone entire vehicles.
Great choice of body shell too! |

A thermistor wire broke on my printer halfway through the rear body print. I restarted now with new wiring. Should be able to make a video with the body tomorrow unless it snows or rains.

What is the scale ? 1/10 ? 1/12 ?
|
|

The scale is approximately 1:12. The full size terra tires are 66". The RC tires are 134 mm, which is about 5.28". The body is closer to 1:11, but then RC car bodies are usually way off scale in size. The wheelbase is 290 mm.
The body comes out great. The detail is going to look awesome with paint. I attached a photo of my old Marui Big Bear which shows the same front detail with paint. |

You would be surprised! Designing parts for 3d printing is not as difficult as you would think. But I must admit designing something like this bottom up, does take some serious skills! Great work man!
