Models with 1/2A Power Pods

Like many of you, I love models with power pods, especially with 1/8-1/2A engines. Here's a place to share your experiences, photos and videos of these models.

Gentle Lady cox .049 (0 min 28 sec)

My gentle lady with a pusher power pod. Lethargic .049 made for a pretty short flight.

That reminds me of my Duet. It was an italian model with a Jedelsky wing that was much too heavy to fly. I recall a failed launch, one of many, which hit the ground pretty hard. The motor was still screaming away though. I had a Drifter that I pretty much learned to fly RC on. It was fairly underpowered with the poor running baby bees. The wing broke in the air, and floated down slowly, and the fuselage was buried at least 6" in the sand. It took a while to find that TD which was nose mounted. Anyway I put the wing together without one wing section, about a foot smaller wingspan, and it was a wonderful flying plane then, it cut through the wind and glided just as good, maybe a bit faster.

Shaboom

This was the original name for this plane. It is on Outerzone under 'Baby Boomer'. 40" span with a TD .010, rudder and elevator--7 ozs.
I got a copy of Scott's original drawings after I met him at one of our early SMALL events in Little Rock.
We flew them together the next year at SMALL.
He was a great designer and builder. His plane was years older than mine and looked much better.
Tony,you've flown it !!

Love the Shaboom/Baby Boomer! It was the first .010 powered sailplane I ever flew...and it's a sweetheart. Thanks Steve!

I don't have a picture of my Thermic 50 single channel ACE pulse propo Pee Wee .020 powered motor glider. It was a lot of fun to fly in vacant lots or thermalling in large venues like Lake Elsinore, back in the 60's,

I just found the Thermic 50 plan on Outer-zone. Might put file on flash drive and have it blown up to full size and use my Tobe GG actuator for flapping rudder and elevator with small BL motor on the power pod. Gotta finish my EP full size Mambo first.
