Me 162

Hi all, I have a kit , well not really a kit , just a 'glass fuse and some wings for a 920 mm wingspan me 162, manufacturer says should weigh about 1200 grams all up when finished , question what power plant do I put in this thing, I know nothing about electrics, kva's and stuff mean nothing to me I fly gliders and glow powered stuff , do I want it to go like crazy ? not necessary but I would like it to go, the diameter of the spinner should be about 300 mm or 1 and1/8 inches in old money . Thanks in advance for your reply's

you could try this https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbykin...on-system.html for authenticity.

Which edition of the metric system are you using?

Are we talking

- ME 262 (twin engine ) Scwalbe/Swallow, or
- ME 163 (single engine rocket plane) Comet, or
- HE 162 Volksjager?

I am suspecting ME 163, as people easily get away with little props on the ME 163. Some of them even had itty bitty props, driving a generator.

The link below shows a list of all Me 163 RC models, there is a 95 cm/950 mm model with glass fuse, from Topp hobby. There is a link to a brief write up on a finished example. Looks like the builder went full metal jacket on the powertrain; a hybrid rocket engine!

The Durafly Me163 is close to the same size, maybe use the same motor/prop as in that plane

The ME 162 was actually a Bf 162 Jaguar light bomber, first flight 1937, 3 built. It was twin engined.

"As a disinformation tactic, images of the Bf 162 were widely circulated in the German press, captioned as the "Messerschmitt Jaguar", a name never used outside this context."

There's a thread on the Durafly ME 163, I think it's in electric warbirds forum. Some of those people have modified their Comets to include Estes rocket motors, which sounds like great fun.

I think they still have motor/prop as the Estes rockets have the same issues that the original plane had, short duration. That would bring the cool factor way up. Maybe not as much as a pulse jet, but maybe more practical.

Good luck and regards

I think you should call it the ME 162+1!

Me 262+1

Well after going through all the info I can fathom I'm settling on a 2810 kv motor, in runner , 2200 , 25 c lipo battery , 6x4 prop and 35 amp speedy, I've measured this with a watt meter and it gives me 320 + watts given that the little sucker should weigh about 1.2 kgs , I think it might go o.k. Don't ya think?

You're welcome. Remember to post some photos of your build here, and of the maiden.

In looking into the ME 163, the real one apparently was a really sweet flying plane. A lot of times models display similar flight characteristics, so with any luck you'll have a great flying model.
