48" LEG P-40 hybrid

How about a good 'ol fashoined build thread.

This is a Leading Edge Glider kit that will have a wide root wing. It will be similar to two of the three Helcats I built a few months ago: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...2&page=1&pp=15

so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Here are all the pieces out of the box. when you look at it in this state its easy to convince yourself it shuldnt be that difficult because there isnt a bunch of pieces.

Here is the difference between the standard wing and the wide root one. A standard wing is a good two inches smaller. They have the same airfoil (RG14).

I started with glueing the scarf joints on the spars with tight-bond wood glue.

I then outlined and cut out the slot for the smaller spar stiffiner with a sharp sanp blade.

I like to cut about 1/2 of an inch off the tips of my spars to prevent them from poking out after a few rough landings.

I hate to ask stoopid question so early but how do you get the bottom of that cut so smooth? all of my spar cuts look like i cut it out with a claw hammer

in the back ground of post #6 you can see little 2-3" pieces of foam i cut out. I set the depth of the snap blade to just barely exceed the width of the spar and cut my outline first. Then I extend the blade all the way out and press it flat against the pre existing spar cut and remove little pices at a time insted of all at once.

Bring on the questions!

Yes, you can order your 48" kits with this wing. It helps diversify the wing loading for light lift days or for combat. It takes away from the scale looks but makes it a lot easier to handle. It still performs well due to keeping the same airfoil vs Leading Edge Gliders older wide root wings (Hellcat/ Patriot) had a 3016 or 3021 airfoil.

Hey Tawg,
Have you had this kit for a while, or is this a new kit coming out of Kansas. Just curious because I'm still waiting. I know they are supposed to be shipping soon.
