Sparks
Had a chance to get any more flight time On your very cool BUFF. Are the Dr Mad 40mm working out to be the edf of choice . HobbyKing only source . Looks like USA warehouse is still out of stock . I’m still contemplating going with (8) E-flite 28 mm , but I think I’ll need to build a lighter airframe. Take Care Jim |

Hello,
If weight difference of the 40mm and 28mm is a few ounces I would go with the 40mm. I got my 40mm through the global warehouse , which has them in stock, shipping is more but when will they be in USA warehouse??? Also, if the ESC's , wiring and battery size will be the same go 40mm. More Power is good. If you have no restrictions on shop space and transport issues I would go with a full wing. I have restrictions and had to go with halves , a full would have been about 7 to 9 ounces lighter due to no connection construction needed. If you do not have access to a paved runway and build a launch cart it will need to be steerable , at least that is what I will need to do due to so much bouncing on my test run up that kept it shifting side to side ( this was on a golf course fairway). No takeoff yet , need to go to a very large open area . If you have access to a paved runway I would go ahead and add landing gear. |

Hi Bear
Thanks for all the good info . Your Buff is awesome. HobbyKing has the 50 mm In stock but not the 40 mm USA , go figure . 50mm is to big. Yeah I was planning on a one piece wing , good point. Decided I would like to go that route after seeing J Morgan’s build. Thanks J. I will have access to a paved runway & will go with a launch cart or fixed gear . It would look better clean in flight though . Just a thought on your launch cart , If you increased your wheel base do you think that could slow down the bouncing . Maybe use a couple of arrow shafts for extenders ? Oh just out of curiosity what size EDFs are you planning to use on your 10+’ Buff . Thanks Again , Good Luck on Your Maiden ! Jim |

Hello Jim,
I believe the Dr. Madd 40mm are in stock on the Hobby King Global site. Might try that, have some carbon fiber tubes 40" long, it might help the track but instill some extra bounce, do not know till we try. Well the big 10+ will be a glider of sorts with fake collapsible engine pods and a pusher motor in back (replacing the stinger). I will load some pix when I get the wings cut. |

Jim , No more flights since the paint.
either too cold or just wet. The new fans are great , more power than it needs. I cant speak for the vertical performance but cruse is easily half power. Big bear, if you go pusher on the big one be careful about the motor angle and be prepared to make adjustments. My first launch under power would be at 1/4 power. That moment is way back there dude. Looking great. |

Where can I find the books
I’d like to purchase some of the books mentioned in this thread. A link or www would be great thanks. Really like the build I’ve seen here.

Not sure which books were mentioned, but since this is Sparky's thread I'm sure this was one of them.

Hello,
All blue foam is cut, now just have to put it together with just enough carbon fiber tubes and glue to hold it together for gliding only. Foam weight is 4.6 # Foam, motor, ESC and battery is 5.8# I would say the carbon fiber tubes, servos and linkage and glue would come under 1#. I will see how it flies without adding any covering, if wings do not flex too much, good to go. I then will figure out what kind of fake pods to use (and if they will fold up for landing), blue foam or this green foam that bends very well. I have not bought one in awhile but a fosters beer can might be the right size for the front portion of "H" engine, have used it before !!!! The wings will then need some extra support with pods attached. No landing gear planed, really do not have a long enough strip to land and come to a rolling stop, anyone willing to catch it? Sparks, yes that is going to be a fun time getting the offset right way back there. |

Hello OldFart,
I do not know what it is called. I get it from big trash bins at construction sites that a friend works. |

Hi Bigbear
Nice looking Buff you got there . Looks like your on the way to keeping her light . What airfoil did you wind up with ? Very clever use of an empty Foster can . Will you be extending your esc wires on the motor side to get to the tail ? If so is there a limit on length. Take Care Jim |
