I agree nitro power is no good for long range because of the high fuel consumption. What you really want for long range is a 4-stroke ignition engines that burns gasoline.

Retractable landing gear would also increase range. Wheel pants would be an easier alternative.

I have built a Tarot FY680Pro with a Pixhawk 2.1 and RTK-kit. Flies well. Not mine though.
Now building a Vulcan 900mm also with Pixhawk 2.1 and RTK. Also not mine! =)
And hopefully use a Pixhawk 2.1 in a UAV-plane soon, I hope.

Pixhawk Numbering.

Why is Pixhawk numbering so messed up. I fly a Pixhawk 2.4.8 but apparently the 2.1 is a newer design. I have it figured out but many buying a autopilot for the first time are clueless about the numbering system.

They should have called the new configuration 3.0

Years ago I started using 3DRobotics APM 2.5, then 3DRobotics APM 2.6. Also have a clone APM 2.8 thats like the 3Robotics APM 2.x if I remember it right, but its not a 3DRobotics.

I also have a Pixhawk 2.4.8 but havent used it yet. Its more like another clone on the 3DR Pixhawk "1" Im used to.

HexAero Pixhawk 2.1 (which I have used) are totally new. Cube and Carrier Board. Picture-Google them. =)

I also have some MiniAPM 3.1. ;-) They are like APM 2.x but in a smaller version.

The number/version... well, its not the same manufacturers products. I have learned now, but yes, confusing.
