Great price. Wish it had voice commands, if it did I would definitely pick one up and sell my 14SG.

Actually, yes it does.

Futaba's rolled out a protocol variation for each and every different channel count in the line, and receivers to understand those protocol variations. So FASST 7ch is in fact a different protocol variant than FASST Multi, and FASSTest 12ch is a different protocol variant than FASSTest 18ch. A protocol is the combination of the over the air signalling (FASST/FASSTest/S-FHSS/T-FHSS) and the frame format (the various channel counts). You need a receiver that can understand 14+2 if you want to be able to send 14+2 channels, which would be a new protocol variation for Futaba.

But your assumption that the 16SZ will require another protocol is flawed since they clearly state is will do FASST/FASSTest/S-FHSS/T-FHSS. Under FASST there will be the normal Multi-FASST and 7-channel FASST. And those 2 are NOT different protocols. It has to do with the receivers and how they are designed. So saying Multi-FASST and 7-channel FASST are different protocols is simply wrong.

And again, the 16SZ will do the exact same protocols that the 18MZ-WC and 18MZ do despite having fewer channels.

wish they would produce a quality HV/PowerSafe like RX to go with these. Either way it might be time to sell the 14SG for this beauty.

If Multi-FASST and FASST 7ch were the exact same protocol, then there would be only one of them. They're the same at the data link layer (the over the air signalling is the same), but different framing formats for the different channel layouts. The combination of the two make up the protocol itself. Futaba has taken the path of having multiple separate protocol variants under one family, that they add to as necessary rather than defining a single flexible protocol as other systems do (neither is wrong, just different)

They are two different protocol variants. The 16SZ needs to either match the current FASST/FASSTest protocol variants, or new receivers and/or receiver firmware needs to be released to handle a notional 14+2 protocol variant. It's quite possible that Futaba might just have the 16SZ send 16+2 with no data in either the last 2 channels of the 16, or more likely zero the data in the +2 and just send 16 proportional channels. Or we might see both options, a new receiver talking 14+2, and compatibility with 16+2 via two empty channels.
