30,000 RPM?

Toying with the idea of seeing just how fast my Vortex will go. Aveox Virtual test stand gives almost 30,000 RPM on my 1406 2y and 12 1250's, 5.5X5.5 APC. 31 oz thrust and 155 MPH. Tips and advice on flying at these speeds and RPM?

The motor won't handle that kind of current draw for long. Even 40A is pushing it for the 1406/2 - that's what I have in my (yet to be completed) Vortex, 5.5x5.5 on 8 cells..
Still, it would be fun to see..

This man needs a current F5D motor. Astro, Hacker, Lehner and Kontronic all make competitive F5D motors that will turn this fast-on the ground.

You won't fly for long though as these motors draw anywhere from 75-90A. Get a quality controller for this one!

Good Luck,

I should make a clarification before people get anal. These motors turn over 30K static with F5D props. The props of the day are APC 4.7-4.7, 5-4.7, and 5-5. A noncompetitive F5D motor might swing a 5.5-5.5 at 27k or so, but your model would be vertical from handlaunch with a current F5D setup.

BTW, I think the numbers that were belched out from the Test Stand are optimistic. I'm of the opinion that motor test program results are skewed when going to extremes in modelling. It's not Aveox fudging numbers to sell product, the same is true when trying to plug numbers in for a SloFlyer. Tachs and meters are a better way to find out what's what.

I hope that your Vortex isn't built already as you probably don't have enough strength in it to take turning at 155mph. Being large won't take a lot of the speed off of it and there's not much point in flying a plane that heavy at less than full throttle. There is a lot of torque on takeoff on an F5D, probably less so on your plane because of the size.

Get a big field and an able launcher!
