Build Log

The Thing, cheap, simple, and lots of fun!

My dad modified a design that was given to us. The result was amazing, it flies great, slow, fast, rolls like it has ailerons, inverted flat spins (kind of), tail touches, tight loops and many more. It doesn't like to be inverted but it will. Hope you enjoy it.

Total cost is under $50 without transmitter when using Dollar Tree foam board, you will need to buy 2 sheets to make one.

Time, my first build took about 4 hours but once you get the hang, you should be able to get the build times down to about 30mins. I suggest you make templates and save those.

I will post a build video soon.

Fuselage is DTFB that I covered with 2" packing tape and the parts are hot glued right on to the tape.
Motor 1400kv 2212 $5.10 http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...12-1400kv.html
Prop $1.30 for 2 http://www.valuehobby.com/accessorie...low-flyer.html
ESC 30amp $8 http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...e-30a-esc.html
Servo, 9g $2 http://www.valuehobby.com/radio-syst...cro-servo.html
Battery 3s 1600mAh $15 http://www.valuehobby.com/power-syst...600mah-3s.html
Motor mount and servo mounts are 3D printed by us. But you can glue the servos down and build a motor mount, put in about 3 degrees down and 3-5 degrees right thrust.
Battery, receiver, and ESC are Velcro-ed on.

The part in the middle of the plans is the stiffener that gets folded in half, glued to the bottom all the way forward.

Some have used 10mm square glued to the bottom and a Slow Stick motor mount glued to the bottom.
