DJI Announces a new Phantom 4 Drone with the Advanced Version

DJI announced a new drone this morning, the Phantom 4 Advanced. It's not really new, just a different version of the popular prosumer Phantom series. They already have the standard Phantom 4 at $1199 and the Pro version at $1499. This new Advanced model is $1349 so it's only $150 less than the Pro. The main difference between the two seems to be the Obstacle Avoidance systems. Where the Pro has forward, backward, side and downward facing sensors, the Advanced version only has forward and downward facing sensors. You'll have to decide if the extra $150 is worth the price for extra safety on your flights.

The Phantom 4 Advanced packs in an amazing camera with a 1" 20MP CMOS sensor that can shoot 4K/60fps video. It has advanced flight autonomy systems like ActiveTrack, TapFly, Return to Home, and Draw. For a little extra money, you can get it with a built in 5.5" 1080P screen that runs the Go app. Both versions of the remote feature the upgraded LightBridge technology that provides an astonishing 4.3 mile transmission range and fairly low latency video downlink. Couple that with the intelligent flight batteries that provide 30 minutes of flight time per charge and the Phantom 4 series is nearly unbeatable. The Phantom 4 Advanced is available to order right now and should start shipping near the end of the month.

Seems like a really good deal for what you are getting: http://www.dji.com/phantom-4-adv
But I'm wondering why anyone would still buy the Phantom 4 Pro if they can buy the Advance model with almost the same specs for way less?

Not sure why you think $150 is "way less" I would ask the other question, why would you settle for less for such a trivial amount...but hey that's just me.

very true considering you can buy a factory fresh P4P right now for $1399 plus an additional $100 gift card from newegg/dji offical store.

Same here, I'm still trying to figure out why the price points are so close, doesn't make a lot of sense.

Spec is too close as well to be honest.

If it is ONLY the obstacle avoidance cameras then it seems strange. If the camera records at the lower bitrate like the regular Phantom 4 (60Mbps vs. 100) it would make a bit more sense.

also unknown, unless I've missed the detail, is if this p4A has the dual compass and IMU inside that the P4P has

DJI Introduces the Phantom 4 Advanced Drone

It's more P4Pro than P4

It's basically a P4P with no 5.8Ghz connection or 1080p live feed, Side and rear OE.

So it has all the little extras on top of the new camera the P4P had like

The updates 2.4ghz wireless system
Larger battery
Updated front OE for longer range and faster flight in P mode by using the main camera as well as the vision cameras
All the new enhanced flight modes.

It's much more than just the P4Pro camera on a P4.

I almost never use OA - so the lack of side and read is not really a big deal for me.

BUT - those NewEgg and other discounts bring the machines too close. Maybe the discounted P4A will be $1100 before long and that would be a great price.

The other part of the equation involves what little competition there is. Let's see - I can buy a Yuneec H with a relatively poor cam and OA for $1500+ - or a P4A with longer range, vastly better camera, etc for less.

Same goes with Karma and Autel. I can buy a "yet to ship" Autel at an unknown street price with a 1" sensor. Whether or not the biggies will support it (or when) is an open question. It's have to imagine Autel being DJI in total price and value for OA, 3rd party stuff, 1" sensor, etc.....

Maybe we will know more at NAb.
