5087 servo

I ordered a set of these for my new Extreme Flight 52" Slick. My Gecko 85 ESC just has 7.4 and 8.4v for HV options. Is a steady diet of 8.4v okay for the 5087 or better to set at 7.4v? I ask because I read some negative comments about servo centering and that higher voltage helps. I don't want to reduce the servo lifespan in doing so.

Shouldn't have a problem operating them at 8.4V, they are rated for it.

Thanks for the reply.
I sure wish the industry would provide a max safe voltage. I would even think the speed and torque would show better numbers as well. A 2S battery will lose voltage where by a BEC set at 8.4v will stay at 8.4v.

Max safe voltages on any of our HV servos is 8.4v, for our 6.0v servos I would not exceed 7.2v. There's 2 reasons we use nominal voltages for ratings:

1. Batteries are rated at nominal voltages, not fully charged voltages.
2. You will know how the servo performs when your battery is under load.

Annoyingly, you can't set the voltage on a Castle Creations BEC Pro at 8.4. Only 8.5 is available.

That extra tenth of a volt is not a problem, right? Seems like it wouldn't be.

That is incorrect, the BEC Pro output voltage is adjustable from 4.8v to 12v and in the range for our HV servos you can select 7.5v, 8.0v and 8.5v. Set it at 8.0v and your golden

Of course 8.0 is available. I didn't say it wasn't. I said 8.4, which is what I want to run the servos on, is not available.

Sorry I miss interpreted your line, "Only 8.5 is available"

8.0v is plenty, I doubt you'll feel much difference between 8 and 8.4v.

Okay, I'll stay with 8.0.
