Intermediate Pattern Question

I haven't flown AMA pattern in almost 20 years years but am considering trying it this year. I need a bit of clarification on one maneuver in the Intermediate pattern.

Maneuver 18, Stall Turn, 1/4 Roll Up, 1/4 Roll Down. Does it make any difference which direction you stall?

I ask because this if basically half of a Figure M with 1/4 Rolls, and the stall direction matters there. Or at least it did last time I flew it.

Thanks,
Jim

No matter the direction of the stall, you can check the down grades on NSRCA.

Thanks, Cliff. I've already printed out all that info but just wanted to be sure about the stall turn.

Usually it's best to pivot into the wind.

Does not matter. Need to exit after the roll in the same direction you started.

True, according to the rule book you could pivot either direction. That being said, it is best to pivot into the wind. Doing so will help with keeping the airplane on the same line and allows you to hold a little more power to increase rudder effectiveness. Pivoting with the wind could easily cause you to displace the airplane too much from the established upline and end in a downgrade.
