The Beaver Fever 150 was held this past weekend for the 25 racers attending.
Winds were light and shifty for the practice on Friday afternoon with rain beginning the last hour.
Weigh-in and measuring was at 5PM Friday afternoon.

Saturday 10 AM start began cloudy with light winds and no rain.
The winds picked up by 11AM and gusts up to 18mph were seen throughout the day.
Heats started as 1 lap in the AM and as the wind picked up were changed to 2 laps.
Most racers stayed with their A-rigs and there was some carnage - broken booms, blown out jibs, etc.
By the afternoon, the sun was breaking through the clouds.

Sunday was bright and sunny, with no wind at 10AM delaying the start of the final day of racing.
By 11AM there was enough of a breeze to ghost around the course for 1 lap.
Towards the end of the racing the wind picked up to around 4-8 mph. for the final 2 heats.
The wind was very shifty all weekend with shifts of 90-180 quite common several times on just one leg. Racers on one part of the course would be sailing upwind with others sailing downwind all the same leg. This made for exciting and interesting racing.

Congrats to Gary Boell, who made the trip up from California, for winning this regatta.
Here are the final results:

That's great footage, Art. Super impressed with the video quality out of the tiny camera on your hat.

That's me coming into shore off the start. I had a jib-sheet get tangled, meaning I couldn't sheet in the main all the way. I figure mechanical issues cost me 2 places in the overalls.

Thanks Steve, I've updated the original post with the new Coastal Cup info.
Here's a pic of USA 4d2 enjoying some "assorted refreshments" at the Saturday night dinner.

Series Event #3

Whew!! Beat Art without a reminder.

8 boats came out for the third leg of the series.

Long distance award goes to Rob this time, transporting his boat and sail box on his motorcycle over from the mainland. Despite a little run of over earlys he ended with a good result.

Martin took the day pretty handily and Mark had another good result on the day.

The rest of us were pretty up and down over the day showing that consistency was a key to staying close.

The forecast wasn't too spectacular but, as is usually the case, the nice bright sun did its thing and created a nice steady breeze into the harbour all day long. Most all day spent in mid or better #1 conditions. You should have been there.

We return to SISC in just about a month for a 2 day extravaganza that should be a blast.

A great day of sailing. Thanks to Lawrie, Martin and Roger for making it all happen.

Coastal Cup Series #5

Whew, I beat Barry, even though I'm not on FB where the results are posted!

The race was held in North Vancouver with very light winds to start, but it filled in nicely to finish the day.
I believe Barry has a more detailed summary of this event.

Series 6 - Pier Pressure in Port Alberni

What a great venue and regatta.
Drifting conditions in the AM, top of #2 rigs conditions in the afternoon, surfing downwind in the big waves
Great visibility from the pier down to the race course and windward/leeward marks.
